Ciao from Italy, everyone, from Lucki Chaarms

Hey dopers!

I’m with a relatively small group of students rocking it out in Italy right now. We’re down south at the moment, been staying at a monastery in Castellamare Di Stabia for the last week, visiting Sorrento once and right now I’m in an internet Cafe in Capri. We’ve been to Pompeii, Herculaneum and a ton of other ruins sites (we’re all classical students, so we read Latin and have an interest in Roman history)

So far I’m enjoying Castellamare more than anywhere else, these places are so touristy, and it’s annoying to see packs of Nike-clad, backpack-wearing American tourists speaking loudly in English when this group has taken the time to learn some of the language and observe the local customs. There doesn’t seem to be anti-American sentiment herre, but there’s the same anti-clueless goofy tourist sentiment as anywhere.

Well, we’re going swimming now, so I’ll be paying and moving on. We go to Rome tomorrow, so Internet Cafes will be far more available then. I’ll check back when I can.

Hope all you guys are having as much fun as me!

Sounds like a blast! Enjoy. For how long are you there? Are you high school/college age?

Any butt pinching going on? Have fun!

enjoy. have some espresso for me. The Pantheon is far and away my favorite place in Rome.

Hey everyone!

I’m high-school age (starting my senior year in late August), and China Guy- I’ve had enough espresso to sink a battleship and I can see the Parthenon from where I’m typing. Rome is really cool, and today we toured the ruins of Ostia with two archaeologists and their crews from the University of Texas, and got to watch them work there. That was awesome.

Violet, the butt that I pinch (and the girl that it and I are attached to, albeit in different senses of the word) is currently in Spain. She gets back home a week after I do, and we’re keeping up communication via email.

For classical studies don’t miss Sicily.

For the beaches, don’t miss Sicily.

Likewise the food. And women.
