My kids have been playing a fun game… not! They have been putting coins down the cigarette lighter and in the 12 volt power outlet. We rarely use these outlets except when traveling especially to power up their dvd player so I didn’t even notice coins inside them.
After taking out the coins, I tested both outlets and they no longer work. I thought it was just a fuse, but everything else works that is associated with the same fuse.
Neither the cigarette lighter or the 12 volt power outlet will power anything. The SUV is a 2005 Ford Escape. We are traveling to Florida from North Carolina in a few days. This car ride will be a nightmare if the kids have nothing to watch…
Pull the fuse and check it anyways. Check the manual and see if there are any other fuses associated with the lighters/outlets. If not, there may be an inline fuse. Worse case scenario, a wire was burnt up.
My money is on a bad fuse, pull it and take a look.
On my Audi A4, the bumper would ice and the pop-up headlight sprayers would not pop up, which would cause the fuse to blow. Whenever a collection of related electrical components don’t work, say because they were shorted out, the fuse panel is the first place to look. A fuse is cheaper to replace than a wiring harness or a charred interior, so circuits are fused.
might be two fuse panels as well; one underhood and one inside. IIRC the Escape has the underhood fuse box, and a second one on the passenger side of the center console.
What is “everything else?” Methinks you’re mixed up here.
My info shows fuse #12 for the power outlet and fuse #24 for the cigar lighter, with nothing else on those fuses. It’s a pretty sure bet both of those fuses are blown. It’s darn near impossible to put a coin into a lighter or power outlet socket and not blow the fuse.
