When we do it.
Seriously? You think she’s being criticised for standing up for what she believes in? Read closer, try to pay attention. She’s being criticised for what she believes.
I lose respect for the Dope every time whacko liberals try to claim that Bush is a war criminal. Yeah, the war’s unpopular with you folks. I get it. Just quit throwing around retarded conclusions like Bush should be prosecuted.
Cindy Sheehan is a disgrace.
Barbie Girl by Aqua was a misdemeanor against humanity.
There is nothing in the article to support that she is crazy. She just feels Bush should pay for what he did. I don’t see what people are pissed off about. Unless of course freedom of speech and demonstrating against Bush is now illegal. Perhaps, they should not be exercised against such an important man.
Nope. I will not stop. I believe he is a criminal who should be prosecuted, together with all those who were responsible for the war, the torture and all the other crimes which have been committed. They should all be investigated, exposed and punished.
Those who defend the crimes are a disgrace to humanity.
Guantanamo is a military base and is off limits to civilians…and journalists…hence the reason Bush put the detainees there in the first place.
‘Accepting the hospitality’ like Cindy and Fidel dined together or something. I travelled to China last year for kicks are you going to argue I now support Communism?
Someone is an ‘asshole’ if they don’t champion against every nations human rights abuses? I’m guessing you’re also an asshole then.
Not by me, she isn’t. If I have any “criticism”, it would be in that while her emotion based message is a valid one, she has no information to offer me: she knows it sucks, I know it sucks, and I know why I believe that. She knows how it feels to have your son’s life squandered by cynical fools, and that is information I’m not at all sure I could bear.
We’ll get over it. It will be hard, of course, at first but in time, I hope we will find the strength to go on.
“You folks”? The tiny little group of DFH, roundly and universally despised by all and sundry? While GeeDub is the focus of world-wide adoration and approval, beloved of the nations?
Prosecuted? What justice is possible, what court has jurisdiction to judge a man who through stubborn ignorance and self-righteous bluster caused hundreds of thousands of innocent deaths? You can only hang him once, even in Texas.
Cindy Sheehan is a victim. So are you, but she knows it. She’s something of an embarrassment, sure, but I’ve been embarrassed before, I can deal.
Well, that characterization wasn’t mine - I was just pointing out that someone who grew up in Cuba, as lalenin did, might get ticked off if a bunch of self-styled professional human rights activists were to go to the Cuban side of Guantanamo and protest an American prison and never mention a Cuban one.
Now, like I said - Sheehan wants to be seen as a broader human rights activist - she speaks out about many subjects. Fine and dandy, but that means that others might have a different opinion - and even a strong one based on the fact that they lived in Cuba for a couple of decades, for instance.
Now, if lalenin were to be opposed to the war, would he protest with Sheehan? Maybe he could suppress his dislike for her to work with her - but it isn’t at all evident that she could do the same. She spent the last several years chasing many of her allies away, since they were moving too slow or inclined to compromise on a point or two. Like I said above, she ran for Congress against Pelosi. That seems counterproductive to me.
She chased MoveOn away, she chased away any Democrat she could find. By now it’s her and Code Pink - basically the more annoying of the fringe. Posters who profess their admiration for Sheehan would likely back off from most of the Code Pink tactics - these include picketing soldiers when they’re in the hospital.
Here are some of the earlier threads on Sheehan:
Reading the older threads helped me to remember how nutty she is. US occupied New Orleans? She thinks Bush wants to give the US bird flu? Buying property to be close to Bush in Crawford, TX?
I agree that her tactics are not the best and I would not have done anything with Cuban authorities (if she has done it, which I do not know). Her tactics might be mistaken and even counterproductive in many cases, which is a pity, but the substance of her message, that Bush led the country into a criminal war with lies and ought to answer for it, is sound. And while her tactics may be extreme I can understand she is a victim of the war. If she had been driven crazy by losing a son on 9/11 by the terrorist attacks then the pro-war crowd would consider her a hero.
My thing is, if someone who has a bunch of crazy opinions also has one that is not-so-crazy, just being in that company makes that not-so-crazy one look crazier. Thus, I think it is disingenuous for those against Bush’s war to embrace someone who has so many fringe opinions.
I mean, would you like someone who said, “AIDS was created by the US government to combat the spread of communism amongst homosexuals. To make up for that, we should allow same sex marriage.” Would you embrace Jeremiah Wright if he came out for abortion rights?
Her son did that. He volunteered for duty and gave his life in that service. What she is doing, for all practical purposes, is telling everyone that her son was a fool for doing so. She has taken his decision and thrown mud all over it.
It explains a lot that you are willing to offer yourself up as an expert on what I think or feel.
I’ll ask one question: what lies? There were no lies told as far as everyone but you and Cindy apparently think.
Wow. How about, “Iraq is hiding WMD?” How about, “Iraq had something to do with 9/11?”
Where is this sand hill into which you have your head firmly inserted?
What bothers trhe most about the entire sorry fiasco in Iraq is how it went from “They have WMDs!/Were involved in 9-11/Have Yellow Cake!” to “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and people just kinda ate it up.
Its like they’ve forgotten that OIF only occurred as spin control to cover up the lies that got us into this mess in the first place. I don’t even want to think about how many people have died in this that should never have been put in harm’s way, on either side.
Her son trusted the government and the government sent him to an unnecessary death. That is a fact. Whether he was a fool or a hero for doing it is a value judgment and is neither here nor there. The fact is that he is a victim of an unnecessary war based on lies and that is what she is denouncing. Good for her.
Have I insulted you?
She is in fact a citizen of the US, your grasp of some facts is outstanding. However she chose to protest in this case by traveling to Cuba, as a guest of the Cuban government, do you not see a problem with this? Or does you grasp of the facts not extend to knowing the record on human rights of the Cuban government? Look it up, Amnesty International has a section on them.
She went to Cuban, as a guest of the Cuban government. Once in Cuba she traveled across the island, again as a guest of the Cuban government (it’s about 300 miles from Havana to Guantanamo). At no time did she enter the base.
You really need to read up on her trip to Cuba before you talk about, it makes you look uninformed. She was a guest of the Cuban government. She met with Cuban officials of all ranks, not Fidel because even Fidel knows better.
Thank you for bring our attention to the issue of consuming importance, Cuba and our policy towards Cuba. We appreciate the effort, and assure you that no further such efforts need be made at this time.
