Cite Your Favourite Saturday Night Live "Commercial"

More video links! I’m at work and I’m bored. This has been a great reminder of funny spoofs of SNL past.

I’ll confess I’ve never seen “Happy Fun Ball.”

anyone remember the “Trough & Brew” ?

recently I saw the “That Hurlahee Boy.” commercial. weird and spooky.

Someone here will have the asnwer. Not that long ago, when Chris Kattan was on, he did some commercial where he drank something and starting eating things grossly like w olf would? I know I’m not imaging this (why would I?) Anyone?

I don’t remember the name of the product but it’s “the hairball treatment cats ask for by name.” Cats hack in time to the Purina Cat Chow music. That had me laughing for weeks. Then seeing Puss in Boots hacking up a hairball in Shrek 2 reminded me of this commercial. Then I had to explain when visiting friends why seeing their cat hack up a hairball caused me to laugh practically to incontinence.

Did anyone else notice that they used actual product or company names in the more recent commercials? The Huggies and Kotex were the most obvious.

PS-I don’t wish harm to cats but seeing this commercial was just too funny! And they taste like veal…

I enjoyed it, too, since I got to see old favorites (such as Oops! I Crapped My Pants and the chicken restaurant whose mascot explains how he is cooked up and served to you- “being dead never tasted so good!”) as well as some mentioned that I had never seen. Gotta love that Old Glory Insurance- for when the metal ones come…and they will.

WARNING: Those who deny the existence of Robots might be Robots themselves.

85 posts and nobody has mentioned Handi-off yet?

Don’t you realize how dangerous it is to make a claim like that? See Post #37.

Yet another vote for Old Glory Robot Insurance, but the first to mention that its status was made not by the “eh” premise but by Sam Waterston’s deadpan delivery.

I was glad to see the circumcision car ad again as well.

The Gatorade Cookie Dough one is ‘Cookie Dough Sport’, if memory serves;

The one with the car with ‘One big door’ was the Paradox, I think.

I’d forgotten Roseanne’s CreditCard one, and Jiffy Express - more favorites of mine.

I wish I could remember the name of the roach motel product with Will Ferrell, though… the slogan was “Go Medieval!”

As much as I like NCI, and Happy Fun Ball, and others - Petchow brand rat poison and Bathroom Monkey are my top two.

It wasn’t just the delivery, it was that it was Sam Waterston. It’s a brilliant bit of casting, because Sam Waterston is exactly the kind of actor the insurance companies actually hire to sell fogey insurance in those shitty commercials.

I’m completely blanking on the name, but it was some sort of mysterious, all-in-one exercise equipment. When Will Ferrell opens the box, out pops a caveman, who he as to battle to the death. They had cutaway graphics showing what muscle groups were being worked during different scenes of the fight. It was something like the “BioExercise 3000.”

Watching Ferrell and the caveman trash the place was hilarious.

And what, no love for “The Meat Wagon!!!”?

One that’s really obscure and might not have actually existed:

Eddie Murphey (doing a goofy, but understandable Tom Carvel voice)as the owner and sponser of ‘Mayo World’. One of the treats is a “veritable mountain of Mayo!”

“Comes with Flag and three plastic goats!”

I know I saw this commercial (it was shot in studio, probably live, unlike the produced ads.) but I don’t think they ever showed it again.

I’m not even sure it exists, but I have a memory of it.

No one’s mentioned Cookie Dough Sport, set to Nazareth’s “Love Hurts”?

It’s hard to pick three, but I’d have to go with:

  1. Old Glory Insurance

  2. The Adobe Car, “The first car to break the $200 barrier!”

  3. Bathroom Monkey. At housecleaning time, it is not unusual to hear one of us say, “Monkey hate clean”.

Old Glory Insurance is the undisputed king of SNL commercials.

I also like Chess for Girls.

And I will be disowned from my family if I fail to mention the parody of Miller Time: “You’ve been drinking all day. You drink hard. And you feel like you’ve had just about enough. Now comes Work Time.”

I did, in post 52. I was shocked that I was the first - I remember laughing maniacally at that one when I first saw it…

George

Oops, you’re right. I guess my brain refused to process the word “Gatorade”.

The Philadelphia action figures were mentioned before, but I remember nearly choking to death laughing when they showed how each figure comes with a “Dino-buddy”. And they had an Exploding Jury Box playset!

I wish Battlecats was a real product.

I knew there was a reason I liked you.

I have to meantion Chia head, tho not quite as funny in repeat viewings.

Mybe SNL should switch to all (or mostly) commercials - they seem to be mre reliably funny than thier other skist and even if theye are bad they only last a minute or so…

Brian

Hee!

Warning: Orangutans will not wear diaper.

The orangutan, hands on hips, shaking his head as that displays… heh.

And Bathroom Monkey is disposable, too!
