Favorite commercials (and why)

What commercials do you just really love? I will start with Nestle Alpine White from the 80s… gorgeous song. How many of you 80s kids have been singing this in your heads for the last 20 years?

I’ve got lots, for starters: this Adidas commercial directed by Spike Jones. Neat concept, great music, fantastic commercial I’ve never forgotten.

Wow, I had never seen that one before. It’s a very interesting commercial. I liked the bear

Apparently everyone else here hates it, but I love this commercial for Skittles.

The Geico commercial with Mrs. Butterworth as the celebrity. It is hysterical, especially Mrs. B’s closing line.

So very “Boogie Nights.”

At work, can’t go fishing for links, but:

  1. a commercial for one of those new-age music compilations from around the time that those Gregorian monks had some hit albums. The clips from the various songs were stitched together perfectly. I’d never have bought the album but I’d love to have the commercial mix.

  2. a commercial for a Time-Life video series on nature. The first one was “Predators” and featured a scene of a shark chasing after a sea bird while the bird is back-pedaling away and beating at the shark with its wings. Coolest thing ever.

  3. the Snickers commercial with the panda fanatic wanting to take someone to lunch so they could discuss the latest issue of his panda fancier magazine with the co-workers cowering in an office. “You know what pandas eat for lunch, don’tcha? Bamboo! ‘Coooome to luuuuunch and have some bamboooooo with meeeeee!’” That will never not be funny.

I don’t hate it… but I don’t understand it.

It’s a “Pinata man.” He looks like a pinata, so the coworker hit him with a bat thinking candy would fall out. But he’s not a pinata, he just looks like one.

I mean I get the pinata part, I just don’t get the rest of it. It seems like it’s a spoof of something, and like it would be a lot funnier if I understood what they were parodying.

The ‘Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet’ ads are right up there, along with the Qualcast vs Flymo spat (newspaper: Mower Manufacturers Sharpen Blades).

The distaff side tend to enjoy the Nescafe romance ads.

Here’s the third one that Otto mentions

and

Staples snobot:

“Weeping, weeping…”

The late lamented Honda car commercial that had the people’s heads on one side and the cars on the other. The people looked like the cars. There was tinny music in the background.

It was my favorite commercial ever.

This one, with the split faces of Kevin Garnett and Lebron James, is pretty cool, I think.

John West salmon

That last kick…surprised to see it on TV.

The chocolate Skittles pinata guy commercial.

He is so sincere in his Elephant man way… I have to buy Skittles downstairs… like everybody else!

Oops missed this one- look up one post

I love love love this commercial.

…like everybody else!!!

I mean- he’s a pinata!

The Coors beer commercial, which I can’t find.

“Alex, you better be drinking your water!”

Regards,
Shodan

When I was a tyke, my favourite commercial was a Sony Trinitron one. I was thrilled to find it on YouTube: not the best quality but it made me glee

I haven’t had tv in years so I’m probably missing out on some cool ones but I will throw in another that popped into my head: Staples commercial with Alice Cooper

Damn, I love YouTube.
