Citing a sub-page of a website when authorship information is only on the home page.

How do I cite a website in MLA format when I am quoting or paraphrasing a sub-page of a large site, but things like the last updated date and the name of the author and publisher are given only on the home page? Is it OK to just cite the sub-page and list the author as given on the home page, assuming that a reader would be smart enough to click around to find the home page to confirm the author I gave? Or do I need to either provide two website citations or cite both the sub page and the home page in the same citation?

This is falling a bit off the page, so I’ll just mention that I’ve done it before.
I really don’t think that most sites are set up where the subpages are considered actual separate sites. I would often see the actual authorship only mentioned on one page. I assumed that the purpose of the citation is not so that people can find the page–that’s available from the URL–but to give credit where credit is due.

I did not get it graded as wrong. But I admit that this is a feeble anecdote to base your work on.
