City of Heroes sunset...

Anyone else here bummed that NCsoft is sunsetting City of Heroes?

Very unhappy about it. I haven’t played it since the announcement and have barely visited the CoX forums, it was too painful; I threw myself into Skyrim and played it obsessively for more than a month to keep the destruction of CoX out of my thoughts. My equivalent of getting drunk I suppose. The fact that they shut down Paragon Studio and laid off the Devs made me angry as well. All the Devs efforts and the Devs themselves being discarded, and for no good reason as far as I can tell. All the creativity of the Devs and players being thrown out - not even sold, just discarded. And the community being destroyed for no good reason, not even a good business reason as far as I can tell.

That pretty much says it all. I’ve played since launch but only in brief sessions over the last year or two. I’m not a voracious gamer but CoX really, really connected for me, and it was a pleasure to spend hours in that world. There doesn’t seem to be any valid reason for this abrupt and total shutdown, not when there seem to be so many other alternatives - certainly an offer to keep the servers running on a donation or alternate support model has been made. There’s no reason to pull the world offline even if it’s no longer profitable enough to keep up major development; I never even bothered with most of the additions of the last few years. (Yeah, I’m boring.)

But having that wonderful, incredibly deep world turned off like a light bulb has been a major depresser for the last couple of months. I am trying to log in my dozen alts and roam a bit with each, but knowing that it’s very near the last time I’ll see these sights I know so well makes it very hard.

Damn it all. All good things, and all that… but it’s so pointless on their part.
