I rented this movie last week because it had such a wierd cover. Started watching it and it had some of the most amazing images I’ve seen in a long time! I didn’t get a chance to finish watching it, but ordered it from BigStar just for what I’d seen, and probably won’t get a chance to finish watching it until next weekend.
I’m wondering if anyone else had seen this? It was featured fairly prominently at Hollywood Video, but I never saw it at any theater (even in Providence where we have a few “art-house” venues.)
I own it on DVD. One of the most amazing films I’ve ever seen, visually. The story is somewhat difficult to follow; I got it after watching it three times. (OK, the last time was in English, I cheated )
One of my friends who is considerably more into film than I loaned it to me this past summer. I watched it, but I didn’t like it. Not one bit. It ranks as one of my friends most favorite film ever, however. I’d consider the differences in our tastes in films, though (I like “movies” with gratuitous violence and/or nudity; he prefers “films” with gratuitous philosophy and/or vivid imagery), when considering my opinion.
Ohhh, I want to see this one again! The set designs put me in the mind of “Fellini Does Myst.” Very odd, but I don’t remember much of it. Maybe I was dreaming…
yeah, Delicatessen and City are both amazing movies. the melody being played during the flea attacks is still stuck in my head to this day. and damned if I’m not still creeped out by the duo-lady.
creepy.
One of my favorite things about those two movies is the use of sthe same actors. Bad butcher becomes drugg-addled flea trainer? Wah!
but stay away from Alien Resurrection. It’s like eating leftovers of the best meal you’ve ever had, only to realize too late that the sauce was originally red, and not quite so fuzzy.
One of the most visually stunning movies I have ever see . Loved the computer generated flea .
Ron Perlman who played “One” is a very talented man . He’s in this movie speaking French ,“The name of the Rose” an Italian and in the “Last Supper” and Alien 4 with a American accent . All flawless .
I also would recommend “Delicatessen” , the sex scene is one of the funniest I have ever seem
OMG! This is one of my most fave movies of all time, it’s just something about the surreality of it all that gets me every time I watch it. I own it on video and have seen it so many times. It’s just fantastic.
I love this film which is odd because I tend to dislike visually dark, dank films (Dark City, etc.) I find it rather creepy but just deliciously beautiful.
Wow. What an interesting and dreamlike film. I really liked it. When it was on again (IFC), I taped it–the sound on the tape was crappy and my husband jokes that he can’t hear it well enough to understand them. (The fact that he can’t understand French makes this statement very amusing)
I also liked ‘Delicatessan’ as well. They reminded me (somewhat) of Terry Gilliam’s films. You’ll be glad you bought it, Euty.
I also own it on DVD and love it. An almost post-apocalyptic city where people wear Gaultier designed clothing - very surreal. And the flea p.o.v. is excellent.
I saw it in French first and with subtitles later. Very, very strang movie. I am sure there are all sorts of film allusions but they fly right by me. I did enjoy it, once I got used to the pacing.
Its texture was definitely its most remarkable aspect.
That film is completely mesmerizing. I rented it one night, watched it, and watched it again first thing the next morning. The imagery is just amazing. Definitely worth purchasing.
