good luck collecting, he’s got long record stiffing people!
Just wait for him to die and collect it from his estate. Not that I am wishing death on him, but I do hope she outlives him long enough to collect. Would she be at the top of the list of people who get paid out by the estate? Or is that list of people with judgements against him around the bock as well?
Good luck with that.
This is exactly what I expect. I don’t know Carroll well at all, but I have the feeling that the money wasn’t the big motivator for her here.
This probably doesn’t (legally) change anything:
Seems like it would gut Trump’s counter claim. (I can’t read the article, maybe it says that)
No kidding. I hope the court trebles damages, with a note saying that next time Trump defames her, it goes up exponentially
Doesn’t she have the option to seize Trump assets if he doesn’t pay? In Florida in 2011, Bank of America was ordered to pay attorney’s fees when they tried to forclose on the home of someone who didn’t have a mortgage. After a few months of non-payment, the guy went back to court, got a writ of execution, and showed up to a BoA location with the local sheriff threatening to start seizing assets if they didn’t cut him a check for $2,500. I realize Florida and New York laws may differ, but maybe that’s an option for Carroll.
I would not want to show up at any of Trump’s residences and start taking things. I might end up in possession of something that would get me in trouble.
Like a valuable menorah that was on loan to the United States from Israel, which mysteriously vanished, and then turned up at Mar a lardo.
Yes, When the appeals are over. I believe he posted $5.6M or so with the court to guarantee payment, so seizing assets shouldn’t be necessary. Collection won’t be difficult if the judgment is upheld (which most of us expect it will be)
Just to be clear on this, the jury found that he penetrated AKA raped at 754 Fifth Avenue.
When Trump made his famous comment about his ability to shoot someone on Fifth Avenue without losing votes, he wasn’t talking about rape, but could have been.
Or maybe I’m wrong, and he will lose votes. However, what I think is that swing voters are going to remember GOP claims, in the news today, that Biden takes bribes, and ignore Trump’s legal losses on grounds they are all crooked.
It would appear that under NYS statutes, “rape by instrumentation” is not a category of crime by name, as it is in several other states.
Oh well, what’cha gonna do?
AFAIC, this civil matter is done, and everyone’s waiting for that orange dude with the hair and stuff to finish up his little tantrum of “appeals.”
That man is a veritable dynamo of energy, boundless zeal. A real go-getter. A bulldog! Go get 'em, Rumper-roo! You got moxy for a man your age and health! /s
Trump countersues Carroll: Judge just threw his case out.
Trump loses again. I for one am not getting tired of him losing.
Edit: I think we can now legally call him “Rapist Trump.”
It seems to me that even if the judge allowed it to go forward, trump would simply use it as an excuse to claim political prosecution and tell anyone that will listen how they’re purposely dragging him through this knowing the election is coming up.
Isn’t this the type of thing where a judge would dismiss the case with prejudice? It’s my (very limited) understanding that that’s how a judge politely says ‘enough already, just move on’.
Habba has already said she’s appealing it.
OTOH, the more court cases Trump willingly and voluntarily involves himself in, the more it weakens his ‘I don’t have time to be in court when I’m running for president’ defense. Hopefully one of the times he requests another delay Cannon will tell him that if he’s doesn’t have enough time he can stop suing people until after the election or, alternatively, drop out of the election, get his legal issues sorted out and then run again in 2028.
Trump is praying for this to happen. A judge telling him to get his shit together would be the ultimate indicator that this is just election interference and they’re trying to oppress him because of his politics. Never mind that any other defendant anywhere could make the same argument and would be told in every single case “sounds like that is a you problem.”
All the while Melania is hoping that she will get something when he dies. But I bet it all goes to his kids. Or two of them. Line up the lawyers kiddo, you’re gonna need them.
The only smart one is Tiffany that distanced herself from Don the con. Now Ivanka is trying to.
That’s kinda the weird thing about this. He doesn’t have any politics other than “What is best for me?” That’s it. Full Stop. He certainly screwed that up.
If he had made ANY attempt to put decent people in the White House and cabinet and gave them the ball. We/He would not be here. He could have just played more golf (if that’s even possible).
Asking Trump to be rational and stop making a fool of himself as if his feelings were law is now provably impossible.
What I -want- is for the judges to get much more aggressive in slapping down the lawyers that bring the meritless cases to these points. In light of last 4+ years of all but valueless lawsuits that claim one thing in the briefs and to the press, but are utterly lacking in actual actionable material, I think the case is clear that Trump is not litigating in good faith and any reasonable lawyer upon reviewing the facts should know better.
Yes, I know slowly but steadily a few of the most whacked out lawyers are being reviewed, and the fact that Trump could not get a bond is telling, but the years where an attorney valued their reputation is gone - and with that gone, they need to step up the actual censure which had previously only happened to the most egregious of offenders.
Is it just me or are other people having a problem with this thread title and the people it represents?
The lead characters on the 1970s sitcom All in the Family were Archie Bunker and Edith Bunker played by Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton respectively. Among other things Archie was a gruff uncouth racist New Yorker. Though not evil like trump, merely self-satisfied clueless / ignorant.
Every time I read “E. Jean Carroll” I get this weird pastiche of Edith Jean (Stapleton) Carroll (O’Connor) Bunker playing a NYC-based loudmouth jerk and his female victim.
Carry on.
In the second trial, judge has ruled trump liable. Trial is for how much he will pay.
Trump was in court today re: this trial with amazement from me that he wasn’t humbled at all. That’s an outsized esteem he has of himself.
