It’s hard to believe that the man who brags about being able to grab them right by the… could be found to have committed sexual assault. Or that the man whose words are transmitted by internet in real time could be guilty of defamation. Or that the man who claims to be a billionaire couldn’t come up with 83 million.
Unfair!
C’mon, Gov. DeSantis, do the right thing and have the good taxpayers of Florida pay this bill.
Biden witch hunt! Politically driven! Election interference! SAD!
True dat. On the other hand, given how Trump has repeatedly defamed her, not to mention shown persistent contempt of the courts, and will no doubt spew even more slanderous/libellous attacks on Carroll, I suspect an appellate court will have less incentive to reduce the award.
The higher the money climbs, the more he shows his ass
Hey, where’s Melania? Has she been around? By his side?
Very true. But in this case, where the defendant continued to defame, and is unrepentant… Punitive damages would likely be seen to be more warranted, I would think.
Absolutely. I think her chances of keeping all or most of the award is good. (assuming no other appeal issues–I don’t know enough to comment on the other potential issues)
Am I correct in assuming that if he appeals this and puts the money (or a bond) up and loses, the money gets handed directly to her?
If that’s the case, I would assume, in this situation, with someone that’s well known for not paying his debts, she’d prefer if he appealed it. If that’s how it works, that means she’d get the money, even appeals court lowers it, as soon as the case is over as opposed to as soon as trump pays her. By that same logic, it may also make more sense for Trump not to appeal. He can surely come up with excuse after excuse after excuse to pay her next Wednesday instead of today, but that won’t fly with the courts if he wants to appeal.
Well, if he ever pays any…
I heard it reported that the 83 million required to put up for appeal will also be subject to interest.
Interest going in which direction? The courts paying him while they sit on the money or him paying the courts while they wait for it?
That is impossible.
He pays while shit drags on.
I would’ve assume the appeals case wouldn’t be able to start until he hands over the money. I thought, at least in part, the reasoning for that was so people aren’t using the appeals court to buy more time.
As i understand it, the money goes into an interest-bearing escrow account, and whoever wins the final appeal gets it all.
So, the lawyers?
I dont think he has it. Not with the NY trial going on.
He may be broke now. I think he will declare bankruptcy- or appeal to his sheep for donations. or both.
Yeah, he has to put that up to start the appeal, and pay interest.
From what I hear. IANAL, I work in a machine shop.
If he doesn’t have it and can’t get a bond, can he appeal at all?
