Civil Trial: Trump v E. Jean Carroll (Carroll wins, awarded $5 million, plus 83.3 million)

You’re still a better lawyer than Habba.

You’d think a “billionaire” would hire better lawyers.

So is a hamburger. It’s not a very high bar.

The lawyers will get a chunk, sure, for fees and expenses (litigating is not cheap, not even counting attorneys’ fees), but the bulk of the money will go to Carroll, assuming she wins upon appeal. If Trump prevails, he’ll get back the escrowed amount but will still be on the hook to pay his own attorneys…

Sorry, that was meant to be a ‘nobody wins but the lawyers’ type joke.

Pretty low bar, though! I wonder if the Orange Menace – who fires pretty much everyone that isn’t named “Ivanka” after a fairly small number of Scaramuccis – will keep this loser on?

I am having celebrational beverage and treat.

Melania should start the divorce now, before more judgements come down the pike.

No doubt it’s been mentioned somewhere in the thread that Habba appears to have put some effort into styling herself (hair and makeup) as a virtual twin of Melania. Donald knows, if he knows anything, that whatever he thinks of Melania, he can’t fire her.

Counting on Trump to be confused doesn’t seem like the worst plan in the world. He’s kind of known for it. (Though of course it would have been smarter of Habba to style herself after Ivanka.)

He can appeal without posting a bond. A bond (or cash) stops collection efforts though., so you almost never see an appeal without a bond. And yes, the bond should be for enough money to cover the full amount of the judgment plus the interest the judgment is earning.

Former Florida sheriffs deputy here; yep, all part of the job executing writs of attachment. Yes, at gun point, if need be.

If he doesn’t pay her voluntarily, she doesn’t have to wait. Once she gets a judgment, she can enforce it by civil debt collection process, as others have mentioned. There are extensive methods for collecting on a judgment, as Raza and Procrustus have mentioned.

Thanks for the actual legal information. You need any steel machined?

And it’s not as if he can claim to be judgment-proof.

The award can be reduced on appeal in which case it would be divided.

She’s been seen with him a couple times in the last few years but is not campaigning or going to court with him. I believe that if he is elected, she will not be going to the White House. She didn’t want to the first time and I’m sure she knows the “but what if I didn’t” stance will work for her just as well as anyone.

Oh man I’d buy tickets for that.

The better ones won’t work for him.

Trump does not hire lawyers.

He uses them and then at the end, wads them up like used toilet paper and flushes them.

At one point, he said that lawyers should work for him for free, because working for him would enhance their personal reputations.

Habba is some kind of Senior advisor to Trump’s Super PAC so she is getting paid but not by him.
