civil war in Iraqi

I know I am going out on a limb on this one. I believe that after the new government in Iraqi is in place. A Civil war in Iraqi will fallow. This always seems to happen in history and then what ever side we chose to take. The other side will take up terroism and then we will be stuck there for a long time.

Thats exactly the reason why the US coalition forces are going to hang around there for at least 5 years. To prevent any such uprisings and any resurgance of Ba’athist party control. One of the primary reasons for going into Iraq is to find any terrorist camps and the US military will not tolerate any terrorist like activity while they are there.

What about the Kurds I think they want there own nation. What if the Kurds want to seperate? I don’t think Turkey would like that. Will the U.S. try to stop them.

Well, there’s no reason Iraq has to be a unitary country. I don’t see a major problem, and I think I’ve heard this discussed before, of having two or three states in the country of Iraq, one of them being a Kurd state.

The major problem is that Turkey, which we would very much like to keep as an important ally in the region, is very much against the existence of an independent Kurdish state. The Turks are afraid that the Kurds inside Turkey will attempt to revolt and join such a state.

Not just Turkey but Iran as well. For some reason, the iranians dont want a Jurdish nation as well. Donald Rummy already stated emphatically that there will be no Iraq break up. The Kurds and they (Sunni and Shiites) will have have to get along in one country. Judging by current interviews, the US would seem to have less trouble with the Kurds as they would with the Shiites in the south. The US will forcefully negotiate with the Kurds from forming their own country as the US would forcefully negotiate with Turkey not to enter Iraq.

Well, why shouldn’t the Turkish Kurds want to join a Kurdish state? They’d probably be better off that way. No cite, but I have the impression that Turkey treats its Kurds as second class citizens to some degree. Unless there is oil or something else of value in the Kurdish region of Turkey, both Turkey and the Kurds would end up better off with a separate Kurdish state. Turkey gets rid of a group it would rather ignore anyway, and the Kurds get self-determination.

Won’t happen, but why would that be so bad?

No, no. Iraq the nation made of dependent states. Provinces, if you like the word better.

I think Turkey’s fear is that they would want to take a large part of Turkish territory with them. I doubt Turkey would mind too much if they all packed up and moved out of the country.

Because there are a lot of Kurds in that part of Iran too…so neither Iran nor Turkey want to see a Kurdish state in Iraq, because that’ll encourage the independence of their Kurds.

Has anyone tried to re-map the Middle East by tribal boundaries?
