Crap.
Same thought as everybody else. “Jungleland” it is.

Gotta make it through the tunnel
Got a meeting with a man on the other side
Good bye, Big Man. We miss you!
Very sad. I was taken aback that he was 69.
I’ve always liked this photo: link
mmm
Best sax player ever. Fuck! This sucks so much…
Damn.
Damn…speechless…
Listening to “Rosalita” is NOT supposed to make you sad! Damn it! I’m tearing up.
It’s like childhood flashing before my eyes. I was never more inspired by a concert than watching Bruce and the E Street Band in Philadelphia during the Born In the USA tour. It was FIVE FREAKING HOURS! They played SO much music flawlessly like it was nothing to them. Watching Clarence was exhilarating. His solos sound like no one else. His sound is unique. And right now, I’d give anything be a teen again and be at that concert.
Thank you, Big Man. Best to his family, Bruce and the E Street Band.

“Well a change was made uptown and the Big Man joined the band
From the coastline to the city, little pretties went and raised their hands
I’m gonna sit back right easy and laugh
while ol’ Scooter and the Big Man bust this city in half.”
Yup. That photo, and Jungleland too. There aren’t too many musicians that would make tear up when they pass on, but Clarence is one of them. So sad.
Here’s how clueless I am about some things: I thought you were talking about a baseball player.
Agreed. The wife and I saw Springsteen a few years ago and Clarence was not looking very good even back then. He looked like he was moving kind of slow, he’d mostly stay off to the side of the stage, come out and play a solo here and there, then go right back off to the side of the stage again. Very sad to read the news of his passing in the paper this morning. ![]()
Party on, Clarence. You were excellent to us all.
Later.
That’s the Big Man in the middle, flanked by Martha Davis of the Motels and Fee Waybill of the Tubes.
I was just devastated to hear the news.
Big Man, I raise a glass of Diet Coke in your memory (He knows what it means!)
At 47, I grew up with Bruce & the guys as my soundtrack.
In 1984 I met my wife while camping out to buy Springsteen tickets at Turtle’s Records in Atlanta.
Kids, have your folks explain that.
These guys are the reason my wife and I met and married. Our children are here because of them. Our lives as they are, are where they are just because of that chance meeting of two like-minded kids who love Bruce & the E-Street Band.
Bruce, and of course Clarence, are never far from mind, and I find it very difficult to explain how sad we are today. Just another piece of youth and time slipping away. What can be sadder than that.
Rock on, Big Man. And thank you.
I was watching some of my old 80’s MTV videotapes the other day. I had recorded his single “You’re a Friend of Mine” with Jackson Browne. It was a favorite of mine then. Thinking of the positive (perhaps cheesy) message from the song, I’m sure it would have been great to be called a “friend” by him.
Wolfgang’s Vault have put together a very good playlist of Clarence’s greatest moments.
NJ steps up.
Thanks for that. Awesome.
Very cool too.
