Class Not Registered Error No. 80040154 - DVD player problem

I should probably preface this question by saying that I am not that great with computers. I probably know more than average, but I am certainly not an expert. Please dumb down all responses accordingly.

Now, I use DVD X Player, a region free software DVD player. I have been using it for a long time without any problems, but just yesterday it started giving me the error message “Class Not Registered. Error No. 80040154” each time I try to play a disc. It does not give me any explanation on how to fix the problem. I also have no idea why the problem suddenly came up because I have not made any changes to my computer. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? I am using Windows 98 if that helps. Thanks!

go to My Computer and right click on your DVD icon. Choose Properties. There must be a box called “DMA” or something like that. It must be checked, or else you can’t play dvds.

DMA doesn’t enter into it. Theres something wrong with the app. But other than uninstalling\reinstalling, I can’t offer any more help. In fact, given how uptight this board is about legal issues, I’m surprised that this hasn’t been locked yet - even though there’s nothing illegal about “region-free” players. See if any of these links help:

Looks like a DirectX\Windows Media Player issue (yes, I know you’re not using WMP, but your app might be)
