Classic animated specials

How did I miss this in 1990? And how did it not win the war on drugs? If Alf, The Muppet Babies, and Slimer can’t convince teenagers not to do the marijuana, what hope is there for the future?

(And if you don’t want to discuss the glory of this hard-hitting George and Barbara approved expose, I suppose you can bring up other important animated specials.)

You were too busy doing drugs.

Does the episode of Captain Planet where Verminous Skumm takes time out of his causing-pollution-for-fun agenda to troll Doogie Howser over his HIV diagnosis count?

The least-worst part of the Star Wars Holiday Special is the animated segment:

I remember hearing when the All-Stars special was first announced there was NO mention of it being an anti-drug PSA, so a ton of kids watched it thinking it was going to be the ultimate cartoon crossover and were sorely disappointed.

Really? That segment is why I can’t take Boba Fett seriously.

He said “least worst,” not “good.”

For me, it was the various Rankin / Bass specials that were only on at holiday times:

Frosty the Snowman

Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

And probably the most well known: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

I always loved the voice acting from Burl Ives, Danny Kaye and others.

There is an older thread just about Christmas specials, which was actually in need of a bump…

Toosh.
