Classic Book Club?

Does anybody know of a good Classic book club? Please, not one online! I’m trying to find one that sends catalogs in the mail so I can order the books I want. I found a good scifi/fantasy one, but none that focuses on the classics. Does anybody know of any good ones?

Classics tend to be some of the least expensive books out there, so I doubt you’ll find a classics book club. There’s just no money in it.

I’ve heard of groups that do a classics “challenge” – read 12 classics a year, stuff like that. Lists of suggested books abound!

jsgoddess speaks truly. The Penguin editions are very affordable. Even moreso if you don’t mind buying used.

There’s also the Everyman’s Library, but it’s not a club, and they don’t send books automatically. The books are hardcovers and they don’t have dust jackets, but they do have a nice little attached ribbon thing as a bookmark.

I’m not quite sure just what you’re looking for, but I’ll suggest Dover as a great source for plentiful, cheap classics. You can sign up to get particular catalogs, like the “literature” or the “art” catalog. Dover thrift editions are particularly great if you’re on the cheap, but of course they are often older translations and they lack any notes.
