Deep Purple - Highway Star, Lazy, Space Truckin’
Because the thread’s about rock “classics” from the 60s and 70s. And I’m not sure a lot of people would consider a song from 1989 a “classic” anyway. That said, yes, “Poison” would be on an Alice Cooper top-five list…
Thanks guys! I’ll have enough to burn 100 CDs with that lot. And I just might.
Wait! Wait! you forgot the Moody Blues The Question from Question of Balance Timothy Leary’s Dead from Seventh Sojourn (I think)
Jefferson Airplane White Rabbit & Lather
Surely you mean “Space oddity”?
What’s the adacemic term for mislabeling mp3s again? I know there is one.
Traffic - Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
Moody Blues - Something from their first 5 or 6 albums
Emerson, Lake and Palmer - One of their hits (Lucky Man)
Alice Cooper - 18
Tommy James - Crystal Blue Persuasion
Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath
Temptations - Papa was a Rolling Stone, Psychedelic Shack
Credence Clearwater Revival - Run Through the Jungle
Steppenwolf - The Pusher
The Band - The Weight
Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues
Humble Pie - Thirty Days in the Hole
The Byrds - Eight Miles High
Joe Cocker - With a Little Help from me Friends
Janis Joplin - Down on Me
I’d just like to weigh in and say NO NO NO to Barracuda! It has to be the worst Heart single of the 70s. Any track, even the unreleased ones, off of Dreamboat Annie kick its ass. Of course you said “the real classics”, so I would go with Magic Man or Crazy on You, or even Mistral Wind (the only 3 70s Heart radio songs I like.), despite the fact some find them overplayed.
Some good suggestions so far. Here are a few more (in no particular order):
Cream - Tales of Brave Ulysses
Blind Faith - Can’t Find my Way Home
Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die
ZZ Top- La Grange
ZZ Top - Arrested for Driving While Blind
Blue Oyster Cult - Seven Screaming Dizbusters
Blue Oyster Cult - Dominance and Submission
Beetles - Tomorrow Never Knows
Queen - Stone Cold Crazy
CSN&Y - Ohio
Bubble Puppy - *Hot Smoke and Sassafras *
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints
Kick it Out and Even it Up don’t get played nearly enough.
Magic Man and Crazy on You are two more classic rock casualties, killed by lazy deejays and spineless programming directors.
No Eagles on the lists?? (I breezed through the posts)
How bout an extended version (I prefer Live) of FreeBird?
wtf? Not a single mention of one of the Creedance Clearwater Revival. Fortunate Son, Proud Mary, Up Around the Bend, and Bad Moon Rising are all classics that would well merit a place on a classic rock compilation.
Iron Maiden - Charlotte the Harlot
Cuckoo’s Eggs, according to the site linked. This doesn’t refer to songs whose artist and/or title are incorrect, but MP3 files that are full of garbage and other noise but intended to look like real song files (supposedly an attempt in the Napster 1.0 days to thwart file-sharing.)
As for a term referring to a mis-attributed artist or song title, nothing I saw on Google’s previews appeared to give a specific word or phrase.
I agree with Magic Man, but believe it or not, I can’t recall ever hearing Crazy on You on the radio (just from word-of-mouth that it has been “overplayed” [i have it on tape of course]).
But the real reason I replied to this was to mention that “Classic Rock Casualities” would make a good band name.
How about all 14 parts of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”? That should fill up half your CD…
But seriously, some of my choices would be
“Kashmere” - Led Zep
“All Around The Watchtower”, “Hey Joe” or “Voodoo Chile” - Jimi Hendrix
“Cocaine” - Eric Clapton
“Sunshine Of Your Love” - Cream
“Whole Lotta Rosie” - AC/DC
“Back In The USSR” or “Revolution” - The Beatles
“Long Train Runnin’” - The Doobie Brothers
“Look At Little Sister” - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Of course, I’m too young (and too poor) to know much about classic rock much beyond what I hear on classic rock stations. I know what I like though.
How can you leave out?:
Kansas
Steeley Dan
Crosby Stills & Nash
Neil Young
Bachman-Turner Overdrive
