Classic rock songs you wish had videos...

Do you ever hear a classic rock song and wonder what the video could have been like for it?

I would have loved to have seen a video for ‘Warewolves of London’ by Warren Zevon.

Or some Door’s videos.

When bands start making videos? The earliest one I can recall was the Rolling Stones. I can’t recall the song, but they are dressed-up like sailors and the room they’re in starts filling with bubbles.

:dubious:

The Stones video is “It’s Only Rock and Roll but I like it…”

One particular song I would have loved to have seen with a decent video is “Come Together” by The Beatles.

Some others which spring to mind…

“All Right Now” by Free.

“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Stones.

“Black Dog” by Zeppelin.

And yes, pretty well any song off “Abbey Road” and “Dark Side of the Moon” by Pink Floyd.

I know, I know… there was an odd collage video made for “Something” by The Beatles, but it wasn’t a performance video though. I would love to have seen some real footage from the Abbey Road sessions.

Not many tunes make it to the top of the charts anymore without a video. Personally, for mine, this is a bad thing. It means that the aural “sound based” medium of music has been hi-jacked by the image conscious medium of TV. I think it’s safe to say that music overall has suffered as a result. Sure, we’ve got prettier performers than ever before, but it’s harder than ever to actually hear truly great songwriting.

Some of Hendrix’s stuff… well, maybe it couldn’t have lived up to the music. But maybe it would’ve been mindblowing to see a nine-minute short film for Voodoo Chile.

Videos have been around 60+ years. Interested to hear McCartney say on the Beatles Anthology that they “invented MTV” when they shipped videos of Penny Lane & Strawberry Fields to Sullivan in 1967, after their touring ended. He also said, with a sense of history, “Magical Mystery Tour” (the movie) wasn’t so good, but it does have the only video of “I Am the Walrus.”

Based on the rest of your post, you mean 40+, right? 60+ years would make videos older than TV.

An attempt to do Stairway to Heaven would almost certainly turn out comically bad, I’d like to see it.

All right now has a video
it sucks
but its a video

The Doors did do a video (or short film as they called it back then) for Five to One. I’ve not seen it, but it might be on one of the various Doors DVD’s.

Yesterday. With added exploding porpises.

In other words, video killed the radio star.

But I agree with you %100.

Marley23- yes I meant over 60 yrs old. The videos played,I presume, in movie theatres. Most were of black groups-Delta Rhythm Boys & Mills Bros best known. I have a large collection. The 1943 Mills Bros video of “Paper Doll” has Dorothy Dandridge playing the doll that turns human & starts dancing.

This was the first thing that came to my mind as well. IIRC, the porpises are also supposed to be half naked.

Zappa’s Dinah-Moe-Humm would have made a funny if somewhat explicit video, but then again, most of Zappa’s non serious work would make funny if somewhat explicit vids.
