Classical music that just freaks you out...

My mother has the “classical” station playing, and I just heard a musical tribute to “BachBethovenMotzart”, and thought to myself “Shit, you missed Mahler!”, then they said that piece was BY Mahler! Damn! Gustav is GOOD! Damn! Just Damn! Anyone else love Gustav Mahler?

Not the Crane brothers.

“But you hate Mahler. Besides Maris, who doesn’t?”

Or Carl Orf?

I missed that episode… :smack:

OH, I missed this one. “Fuck Maris, everyone else does!” I still love Gustav!

Ken Russell is an English film director who made several highly-stylistic (oddball) musical bios back in the 70’s. His take on Mahler is here on Youtube. (Mahler is played by Robert Powell, who still shows up on TV around Easter as the unblinking Jesus of Nazereth.) My favorite part is when Mahler is arguing with Alma as they board a train, and while he’s all worked up he slings a too-heavy trunk into the overhead bin, then clutches at his groin to a sudden peal of Mahler dramatic hernia music.

Berlioz has always had a creepy edge, IMO.
