Later in the report, the special counsel said that the president’s memory was “worse” during an interview with him than it was in recorded conversations from 2017.
“He did not remember when he was vice president, forgetting on the first day of the interview when his term ended (‘if it was 2013 — when did I stop being Vice President?’), and forgetting on the second day of the interview when his term began (‘in 2009, am I still Vice President?’),” the report said.
Biden also had difficulty remembering the timing of his son Beau’s death, as well as a debate about Afghanistan.
“He did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died,” the report said.
A Republican special prosecutor found that Biden illegally kept classified docs, but declined to prosecute. But Biden’s Justice Department is charging Trump with felonies for the exact same thing!
Most of us here realize that the two cases are apples and mailboxes, but for low-info voters (and not just MAGAts) it sure could look like a double standard.
Except for the part where Biden is the one that initiated this by calling TPTB as soon as he found them, turning them over and cooperating with the investigation.
Differences with Trump case:Republicans have long drawn parallels between Hur’s investigation and that of special counsel Jack Smith, who last year brought charges against former President Donald Trump related to his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. Hur was careful to note the distinction – namely that Biden cooperated with the investigation and returned the documents, while Trump did not give back his documents when asked and then tried to cover it up.
I have a feeling that the differences are irrelevant for a different reason: there will be a conservative pivot to this absolute proof that Biden is mentally unfit to be President, and the lack of prosecution will be secondary to this. I’m already seeing it.
Mr Weismann said adverbs and adjectives have no place in the reports.
Quite the presser. Pres. Biden stated that the questioning happened Oct 8th and 9th, right after an attack on Israel. Covered 40ish years of his government service.
I can tell you that anytime you are testifying under oath only say what you know to be absolutely sure. Otherwise say I don’t remember, I don’t know, or I’m not sure. Better to say that than risk perjury.
Aren’t these ‘little details’ the reason the court is using to avoid prosecuting Biden? They literally said that there was evidence that he did wrong, but that he presents as a very old man with a bad memory, and thereore the jury would not convict.
Am I getting that wrong? If not, how could they possibly drop the charges without mentioning the reason?
He was doing pretty well at the press conference until he started talking about Gaza and how the president of Mexico (!!!) would not allow humanitarian aid.
Yes, but he clearly just misspoke and said “Mexico” when he meant “Egypt” and even said the president’s name. What he says is sensible if you realize he misspoke one word.
That contrasts to Trump who did not misspeak and say “Nikki Haley” when he was talking about Nancy Pelosi. He was talking about Nikki Haley at the time, or so I thought until I went back and watched the YouTube clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGTJy1Ij4Qk) and realized that it is such a garbled mess of stream-of-consciousness and non-sequiturs that it is hurting my brain to even try to parse it.
That is unfortunately the kind of misspeaking that makes him look bad. It was like a record scratch in my head when I heard it. You can’t write that off as a stutter. It bothered me because he was hit so hard on his memory and age today and was doing great at the press conference up until then.
No…I’m not saying it was a stutter, but it is the kind of misstatement that I could imagine almost anybody making when they have a lot of different things on their mind, i.e., dealing with the Israel-Gaza situation at the same time as the issue at the southern U.S. border.
I agree that it will likely be used to undermine his arguments that he is losing it, but I am more addressing the question of whether it legitimately undermines it or not. It’s not like Biden was ever someone who was known to be very precise in his words and never prone to misstatements of this type. I too am occasionally prone to it and my wife…she is very* prone to it and I don’t think either of us has even early dementia yet.
