Of course the manufacturer insists you should use their special cleaner, but around here for some reason you can’t find bottles of White Board cleaner except in sets (markers, eraser, etc.).
So, are there any common household cleaning solutions which do a good job cleaning white boards without damaging them (not necessarily to remove stubborn dried marker marks - I know the go over with fresh marker trick - but just clean them after average usage)?
I have had very good luck long term (10 years) with using scrubbing bubbles type bathroom cleaner (made by Dow Chemical, I can’t think of the proper name to save my soul right now), followed up with Pledge spray furnature wax. After wiping the Pledge off let dry and buff.
Aha! Not quite the same question, as I even referenced your question (however indirectly - see mention of fresh marker over marker trick in my OP - Actually my obligitory SDMB search was for ‘White Boards’, not dry erase board, so I missed it).
Well, we have some pretty good answers so far, which I guess we can summarize as : Windex/Glass cleaner (which I have plenty of); Alcohol (wondering if I can extrapolate from whiskey to denaturated or isopropal alcohols?); and scrubbing bubbles/Pledge.
I guess I’m gonna try the Windex first, on the cheaper Fridge mounted board, and if that works on to the big board (yes, I have several white boards around my apartment - doesn’t everyone?)
