I’ve heard some people say that, to clean a white marker board, one can use baby wipes (the moistened kind) rather than the whiteboard solution that is sold in places like Staples. I’d like to know if anyone here has heard this or tried it. Our new principal is a little frugal with the supplies this year, and if I can just go buy a pack of relatively inexpensive baby wipes (and probably have enough for the whole school year) rather than try to finagle some of the board solution, I’ll do it. But I don’t want to just try it without knowing if it works, and more importantly, if it will harm the surface of the whiteboard in any way.
This is a dry-erase board, if that makes any difference. I do just erase it after class, but after a day or two of use, it gets pretty gray and grungy, so it has to be cleaned. I do like the little pop-up board wipes under the “Expo” name, but like I said, they’re in slim supply around here this year. They come in a cylinder of fifty wipes, and they do go pretty fast.
Any input on the baby wipe thing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I’ve used baby wipes on my dry-erase board before. It left a residue, and ended up getting dirtier, faster. It may have just been the brand (something in a blue container, baby powder scented.)
They do sell pre-moistened towlettes in a pop-up container at office supply store.
Our three year old has a “MagnaDoodle” drawing board with colored markers. ame concept as the white board. She also still uses wipes. We use the wipes for both her board and her bum. (NOT the same wipes, of course.)
If you want to save money on white board cleaning, fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol (isopropanol, 70%, available at your supermarket). Spray the board and wipe it clean with a rag.
