Clearing form autofill: Firefox 20

You know those web pages that helpfully place the cursor (focus) for you when they load? I typed in my username before the page finished loading, pressed [tab] to go to the password field, didn’t notice that the Javascript moved the cursor back to the username field, typed my password, and pressed enter.

Now, on this shared computer, every time you load that page and press the first letter of my username, Firefox helpfully displays my username and password. I’ve gone through all of the settings and I can’t find the place where you clear the autofill data for forms.

Is there still a way to clear autofill data without wiping my whole history and all of the cookies?

Clear Saved Forms

Type the first letter of the username and if multiple options appear highlight the one you don’t want and don’t click on it but press shift+delete.

Actually, in the current version of firefox (since they made the menu bar hidden by default, and you have to press alt to make it appear) you can either go to tools > Clear Recent History and check just “form and search history”, or access the same menu by hitting CTRL + Shift + Delete. anywhere within firefox.

But, just deleting that particular entry will probably be easier. to do that, go to the page where it automcompletes with your username and password, type in the first few characters until it shows your username and password as an option to autocomplete, move your mouse over the option (but don’t click) then just hit Shit+delete on your keyboard. You can use this same technique for url’s in the address bar, your search bar, pretty much any place autocomplete works.

Inner Stickler had the right idea, I just added some neophyte-friendly detail.

Thank you! That’s what I needed!

I’m 100% sure I’ve done this just hitting delete, not shift-delete. Just make sure the correct option is highlighted.

What does shift-delete do differently?

I think that was the old requirement in the early days, perhaps originally copied from IE, and Firefox have since changed it to just Delete.
