How do I make Firefox forget?

I searched the general computer question, but did not find this. I suspect it’s easy.

My wife’s computer (PC running XP and in particular Firefox) remembers everything. Most importantly it remembers her credit card numbers. She’d like it to forget these and not remember them in the future. I’m sure these must be in some cookie or something, but I really don’t know how to figure that out.

Any suggestions?

Which Firefox version? Click Help > About Mozilla Firefox to find out.

Try Ctrl+Shift+Del to bring up the Clear Private Data box, select all the boxes and click on Clear Private Data Now.

To erase Saved form information in Firefox 2.0:
• Select “Tools”
• Select “Options”.
• Select “Privacy”.
• In Private area click “Clear Now”.
• In “Clear Private Data” window put the check mark for “Saved form and Search History” and click “Clear Private Data Now”.
• Click OK.

To erase Saved form information in Firefox 1.5:
• Select “Tools”
• Select “Options”.
• Select “Privacy”.
• Open “Saved Forms” tab and click “Clear Saved Form Data Now”.
• Click OK.

If you want it to stop remembering form inputs in the future, you can (assuming you’re running a recent version on Windows) go to Tools->Options…, then go to the “Privacy” tab, and uncheck the “Remember what I enter in forms and the search box” checkbox.

EDIT: This will just prevent it from recalling anything you enter. It won’t erase what’s already there; for that, you’ll need to follow one of the methods provided by HongKongFooey and x-ray vision. Form inputs aren’t stored in cookies; Firefox itself is keeping track of them.

Do you have the Google Toolbar installed? That has a section to remember credit card numbers. Settings -> Options -> AutoFill -> Add/Edit Credit Card
