Clever hacks that you've never gotten to work

Another vote for the efficacy of hanging a suit in a steamy bathroom. It takes a while, but the packing wrinkles disappear.

This is probably why a lot of hacks fail. Sure, it might do the thing, but who has 12 or 24 hours to wait for their suit to de-wrinkle? If I’m traveling for a job interview, it’s almost certainly a commando-raid kind of operation. In and out as quickly as possible!

I found it good for men’s suits, good heavy material. And not crumbled up in a ball for the last week type of wrinkled, it works for wore it today wrinkled or packed in the garment bag wrinkled.

By “a while”, I mean a couple of hours at most. Not overnight.

Got it. Seems to me many tips & tricks need another round of tips & tricks to get them to work properly. Hack hacks. I appreciate folks sharing them.

So now I know why this particular one hasn’t ever worked for me: I’ve only attempted it with dress shirts and maybe slacks. Those were too lightweight and not wool.

Here’s my related “hack”: don’t pack the suit coat/sport coat. Wear it on the plane! I’ll admit that I’ve worn some silly outfits (suit coat with shorts!) on a plane to comply with this, but it has spared me wrinkly coats.

For some of us, I suspect that would end up with even more wrinkles.

I have four desktop PCs in my spare room and I use them for different functions (e.g., media server, video capture and conversion, home video surveillance system, etc.) I log into them using Windows Remote Desktop from my laptop as I sit in the den. Unfortunately, one of them runs Windows 10 Home, which does not support Remote Desktop. The others run Windows 10 Pro, which does.

There are many sites and YouTube videos explaining how to “easily” change Windows 10 Home so it will support Remote Desktop. I have spent hours, if not days, trying these methods and have never got it to work. I know I’m not entitled to have Remote Desktop work on the Home version, but those smug faces and “see how easy it is!” comments make me want to punch my display.

(Notes: Not going to provide links or go into more details re the “how” of it. Eventually, I just gave up and installed Windows 10 Pro for free. Everything is fine now.)

Not completely de-wrinkled but certainly less wrinkled. My dad also taught me his old Army trick of putting trousers beneath the mattress and then sleeping on them to help them survive another day. It does work well if you aren’t someone who tosses and turns a lot in bed.

I have this one.

Has nobody told you about using your cat iron?

Put a clean pillowcase on the bed, flatten the article of clothing over the pillow case and lightly mist it with water. Next cover the clothing with another clean pillowcase and tell your cats to STAY OFF!!! After a couple of hours, their body warmth will press the wrinkles out very nicely.

You can’t fool cats that easily; their telepathic powers tell them what you really don’t want them to do.

That method doesn’t work when I am travelling and the cats are home.

I use Google remote desktop. Works on all version, and I even use it on my linux machine!

In addition, using a real clothes iron to flatten a cat does not work very well either.

I believe it’s actually Chrome Remote Desktop. Tried it, but it’s very inefficient (compared to Windows Remote Desktop on a fast LAN). Besides…it’s from Google.

True, but I’m lazy at home too.

That just takes a sunny spot on the floor in our home. Once the cats start to melt in the sun, they can fill the whole floor! Bonus points to GG for sticking his tongue out to take up just a little more room.

“An easy way to get rid of skin tags is to tie dental floss or a similar thing string around the base of the skin tag and then eventually it will fall off in a few days due to not getting any blood”

Tried this twice, both times the skin tag persisted.

I have done this a number of times and it always worked. Floss or thread, you have to tie it tight. Don’t use the slippery type because it won’t tighten well. If the tag isn’t turning very dark within a day you don’t have it tight enough. Sometimes they only take a couple of days, sometimes up to a week before they fall off without any coaxing.

A doctor friend gave me a bottle of trichloroacetic acid. A drop placed on a skin tag once a day slowly burns it away.

In the past I’ve removed skin tags by grabbing the base with a pair of smooth jaw hemostats or tweezers. Squeeze really tight for a minute of two. Apparently it cruses the blood vessels. It turns dark and falls off it a day or three.
