“He was shaking like a dog shitting a peach pit”
“With those teeth, she could eat an apple through a chain link fence.”
“Apparently, it’s not who you know, it’s who you blow.”
“Yeah, Right, and monkeys will fly outta my ass.”
“When in doubt, whip it out.”
“Shitting in high cotton.”
And I believe that “I’ll buy that for a dollar” was first used in “Peggy Sue Got Married”. During lunch, Peggy Sue and her friends were talking and two of the boys said to one another, “I’ll buy that for a dollar”, maybe as a reference to a 50’s cliche.(remember that the movie was based in the 50’s)
BTW You may be wondering who says such things? Well I am an RN (Red Neck) from Alabama and we say stuff like this, alot.
Yeah, we rednecks have many colorful sayings. It’s part of the fun of being Southern!
I happen to like these:
“I could eat the ass end out of a rag doll.”
“I feel like hammered shit.”
“Did I tell ya??” (That particular one my brother-in-law has beaten into the ground the past few years, so I don’t find it quite so humorous any more.)
“I’m sorry…you’ve mistaken me for someone that gives a rat’s ass.”
“He’s so ugly he could snag lightning.”
“If I tell her that she’ll shit purple monkeys.”
These probably aren’t cliches anywhere but around here, but I guess if you hear something 10 or more times a week, then you can still label it cliche.
As far as I know, TMBG made it up. Brilliant co-worker simply stole it for a tremendously appropriate use. (And one that won’t get her fired if overheard by the target, who is guaranteed not to get the reference.)
I would love to make cliches out of more TMBG lyrics, but that’s the one that made me laugh the loudest.
