We’ve all seen the Click Bait Ads on social media sites. They are annoying and often times cause your phone, tablet or computer to stall or crash … but still they persist.
Has anyone ever clicked on one and truly laughed til they cried, like the ads said would? Are any of them even worth the aggravation?
I’m a sucker for the ones that start “15 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were…”
When I’m through looking at the slide show (always at least two slides for each), I’m left feeling like, “15 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Celebrities”.
If the first five items on the list are not on the first page, then I stop reading. Certain web sites have one item per page and load so slowly I my phone that I know to avoid them.
But to date, I have not been shocked, stunned or amazed at any of the lists.
the best one of those I fell for was a “15 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Arrested”, and the linked picture above the caption was of Gary Dourdan (“Warrick”, from the original Vegas CSI show), next to a meth’d out mugshot.
After letting out a “holy shit, he looks terrible!!”, I clicked, willed myself through the slideshow pain in the ass, and of course Dourdan was nowhere to be found - since the “mugshot” was just a bullshit lookalike.
Since then, I think I’ve done a pretty good job just avoiding the “clickbait” temptation thing altogether.
I’ve seen a couple classic photograph ones that were mildly interesting for the photos although the attached commentary was insipid and the slide show format to maximize ad views made me quit before I got through it. Photo #8 never shocked me though.
Yeah, I’ve done the clickbait thing a few times. The thing is, they actually had some things that interested me, like the (whatever number) WWII Pictures You’ll Never See. It had a mutha-beautiful photo of one of the Bikini Atoll tests, among other things.
OK, so Bikini Atoll was post-WWII. I suspended disbelief.
