I believe HRC and Obama have a debate tonight. I won’t be able to watch it, since it’ll be around 2 AM for me when it starts and thats assuming AFN airs it.
But considering Obama’s winning streak and the HRC campaign’s failure to gain on him so far, what, if anything, can Hillary do to turn this debate into a win for her team? She wanted to debate Obama in Wisconsin, but to me it looks like that was a move she made because she was losing ground there.
According to Bill she needs to win TX…this debate may be her shot at helping to pull that off. I don’t see how she can do that except hope that Obama says something extremely stupid, or she goes ultra-negative and tries to tear him down in front of an audience. Neither are attractive choices, and I don’t think either of them will do her much good, but does she have any other options?
Nope, it’s all over for her. Being Mr. Niceguy is partially what’s driving Obama so far ahead. If she goes batshit negative, people will hate her even more. However, if she’s nice, it may as well be an endorsement for Obama. It’s a no win situation for Clinton.
There’s practically no chance for Obama to make a critical mistake. He just has to stand there and go on and on about change, hope, and reigning in a prosperous new era blah blah blah. As long as he avoids anything serious, he’s gold. Hell, he could blast a loud fart and people would probably praise him for being open, honest and fresh.
Standing behind her platform won’t do her much good because she relies on her experience to trump Obama, and that’s not going to fly tonight.
I’d think her team is prepping her on sticking to the facts, and staying cool. I think she will have a problem on both fronts. Her Wisconsin speech where she clearly tried to overrun Obama backfired and the tv stations just jumped over her. That does not bode well for coming out swinging in the debate.
Smart Money says, Obama stands by his record of wins and digs in deeper to the guts of his campaign. His team will be giving him a counter-punch list to simply stand on his own right and orchestrate from there. Wow that was vague.
Basically, Obama’s team will be prompting him to dig into substance, show that more American people clearly want him and that he is the better choice overall. If he continues doing what he’s good at he’ll be fine. I’d expect an air of humility from Clinton if she is smart, if not, expect an air of entitlement which the public will see right through.
At this point Obama performs with his eye as much on the general as on Texas and Ohio.
He answers the meme of all hat no cattle with lists of his accomplishments and a wonkish performance. He cuts it off by going into White paper detail. True it glazes over a few eyes but it needs doing.
Clinton? Nothing she can do. She’s dead woman walking. The eyes are on the general now.
I agree she’d as good as dead in the water, but she’s behaving like a shot turkey - they can look dead but upon closer inspection can jump up and spur you in the ass. And I don’t think she’s done using her spurs. Pathetic really, she’s tearing into the very fabric of the party if you ask me.
Anyone know the format of the debates? If the candidates are allowed to ask each other questions, that will probably be good for Clinton. If not, that will probably be good for Obama.
I believe reporters [read abc, cbs, nbc political correspondents] are asking the questions…
So they will bring up things to each that will sting…but it bodes a little better for Obama in that he is the clear front-runner and is winning huge margins. For Clinton, it could be good because she will be able to tout how she will make a comeback - I just hope someone asks her, “Mrs.Clinton, if you do the math it appears you won’t be able to overcome Obama’s lead…when would you conceed and if you do will you back Mr. Obama?”
But in the end, she’s racing a three legged horse against Obama’s Secretariate.
I think a big topic will be (or should be) what to do with the MI and FL delegates.
A lot of the pundits are saying that Clinton’s strategy at this point is to try and rattle Obama, but I think he’ll be pretty well prepared for that.
This is a CNN debate, though, so I’d be surprised if it was aired on the networks. I’m not missing *Survivor *or *Lost *to see it, I’ll tell you that much!
