I got a fever! And the only prescription is… change!
I heard he got a cold because he won’t use Purel, in accordance with Islamic holy laws.
Bitch.
Now that this thread has turned silly, I don’t feel so dumb saying that I kept getting distracted by the white hems on her collar. It looked so weird to me - like little antennas had sprouted from her neck and were wiggling around.
One of the questions directed at Obama had to do with the Senators desire for open fiscal spending yet the $91 million he had earmarked for his state wasn’t published. He said the correspondent was mistaken and it’s public knowledge. I seriously doubt Obama is lying yet I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know what projects the money was for? And Clinton’s $342 million?
My wife immediately noted that Clinton’s ring didn’t look like a wedding band. Rather, she thought it was selected to match her earrings.
This is not directed at you or your wife in any way, or any posters who are talking about what she’s wearing, but I seriously wish people could move past this kind of stuff. We’re going to have a hard enough time getting the general public to accept and vote for a female president, and these kinds of “observations” aren’t helping any. I don’t like her for several reasons, not one of which is because she’s female. If we’re going to chastise her choice of clothing and accessories, we’re paying attention to the wrong things.
I think in the case of wedding rings, we would notice the lack thereof on any candidate’s hand of either gender. Clothing choices are out of bounds but when married people don’t sport their rings it does make people notice, human nature being what it is.
If wanted to castigate Clinton, it would be over something more substantial than her choice of bling. My wife noticed, I assume, simply because we spent 90min in various states of interest staring at the woman, including watching her jot notes, cross things out and otherwise play with her pen and paper. There wasn’t anything to move past because we didn’t hold it against her (we’ve both voted anyway) but she still noticed and pointed it out to me.
Well, before we can get past such things, I think we need to acknowledge their existence.
Hell, everyone made such a big deal out of Reagan choosing a brown suit. It’s not as tho he showed up wearing a turtleneck and a kilt.
But whether a woman chooses pants or a skirt, tons of people are going to notice and form opinions based on that before she opens her mouth. I wasn’t trying to criticize Hillary or any woman politician. Just observing my personal impression as to how strong such biases are.
To some extent do women impose such burdens upon themselves by desiring to appear “stylish”, instead of adopting some “uniform” equivalent of the business suit?
It looked like a sci-fi villain outfit! (GASP) She’s Doctor Doom in disguise!
That’s why I said the comment wasn’t directed towards you. There are other people, however, who will make a big deal of it. That’s what I was chastising. Sorry if I was unclear.
Meh.
Remember Nixon lost to Kennedy in no small part because of his 5 o’clock shadow. Male candidates have learned what kind of ties are distracting and which send what kind of message. Romney’s suit and tie at nearly every event was discussed by the media and when he was interviewed once in Florida in a shirt that had its top button undone he was asked if that was part of a new image for him. (His answer was - No, it’s hot here. My jacket and tie are on the chair.) He then really shocked them by “wearing an open-necked ivory-white guayabera, the traditional Cuban men’s shirt.” Females have a higher bar yet because they have more choices and choices will be scrutinized and judged. Even superficial ones. FWIW, my wife was distracted by that white piping too. It’s not why she dislikes her but it distracted her from attended to what HRC was saying.
Yeah, it gets brought up every couple of years at their annual Conference (meets in my home state this year!) but inevitably the proposal loses by about a 33-66 split.
Silly womens.

Did it seem to anyone else as though Hillary was painting herself a lot farther left than Obama on issues that would be divisive against the Republicans? The strong emphasis on mandated UHC, a complete “trade pause”, and though they both did it, she took noticeably more shots at Bush. Was this trying to court the left of the left, or better position Obama in the general election against the “most liberal voting record” meme?
With all her talk of ‘hats and cattle’, Hillary was the one with all the rhetoric; Obama was all about the Xs and Os, numbers and policies, with just the right flourish of hope to keep people’s attention.
I’m not sure what she was thinking using the ‘xerox’ line and Edward’s closing. She had to have known she would get caught on this. Of course if nothing else, the plagiarism thing, has brought more attention to the names, words, and views of Edwards and especially Devall Patrick to the general public. This, at least, is most definitely a good thing.
I just can’t fight the feeling that the Clinton’s have been intentionally going dirty to groom Obama. They have taken all the attacks expected from the right’s smear machine and, by getting them out in the open early and not as nastily, have considerably softened the effect of such tactics. Intentional or not, however, Obama has come out much better because of it I think. From the first debates to this one he has shown remarkable growth as a candidate and as a leader.
I agree with y’all and think Hillary came to terms with finishing second. She really seemed to get a genuine kick along with the rest of us when Obama defended his supporters and smiled when he brought up the newspaper endorsements and at other times when he won a point. It looked like she had finally been convinced that he can win the general lead this Country. At one point, just after Obama smoothly transitioned his answer into calling Mccain out on Iraq and as they were going to break; you know how you can sometimes catch a second of talk on their mics? I swear I heard her say “I got to hand it to you…”
I also wanted to add that Hillary really took some goods steps in earning back some of the respect that she has lost along this campaign. Though I don’t think she is right for PotUS, nor do I agree with many of the tactics she has used; I do believe that, especially on healthcare, her heart is in the right place. That matters a lot to me. I could very easily, and sincerely hope to, see her become one day great senior Senator of NY. She could be the ‘Ted Kennedy’ of the Clinton legacy; he’s the ‘Lion of the Senate’, she could be the lioness? Tiger?..Cougar?
It’s not like if she loses she’ll be sent to the convent never to run for POTUS again.
She’s got brass ova or something. Not only was she borrowing from Edwards, she was borrowing from Edwards who borrowed the line from her husband, the former President. I guess she thinks people will ignore it because it’s been established that Obama is facing a plagiarism charge, not her.
Perhaps she was trying to bait Obama? Or a subtle swipe at Edwards for lifting from Bill? I’m sure they already know, but neither Obama’s nor Edwards’ camps should make any sort of official response to it. Like Stewart does with some guests on TDS(no relation), just let the point stand looking silly on its own, the internet will handle the rest.
