Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

I was thinking that too. That’s the one Breitbart shoe that hasn’t dropped yet.

As I’ve stated elsewhere, I think Clinton even showing up for the third debate would be a big mistake. She has nothing to gain by such an appearance and a healthy amount to lose. Let her issue a statement that she sees no purpose to be filled by debating a person who isn’t even supported by his own party, and let the chips fall where they may. She won’t lose any voters over such a decision, and Trump won’t gain any. So why take any chances? Do a major scandal drop on his ass tomorrow, then announce Monday that the debate is off.

I don’t get the logic of that. Both debates have proven net negatives for Trump and neutral-to-positive for Clinton. Ducking the last debate would make her look like she was afraid to face down a blowhard, which she isn’t; why give the prospect any oxygen?

I don’t think Hillary needs to debate, but not doing so would make it seem as if she’s afraid of him. I say show up and let Donald try to answer for his perversions while she stays presidential and above the fray.

I think this is pretty accurate. Trump will do the same thing he thinks worked on the last debate. She needs do no more than point out that he’s not interested in debating anything substantive, instead, he’s just using this as to capture an audience to rant his typical rant. The election is hers, she needs do very little else. Let her campaign fight Trump.

This. There’s no point in her engaging him.

Needs a little more diabolical finesse. She should send notice to the RNC(CC to the press, of course) that she fully intends to debate their candidate of choice…but with all the brouhaha going on, she’s just not sure if Trump is still their candidate of choice, and would they mind officially confirming or denying his current position in their party?

Agreed with the folks saying Clinton debating is good, not bad.

Trump’s blather is so fact-free that he can say almost anything and be believed by his devoted followers. And darn near nobody else.

The debate puts a plug in his face for a couple hours at least. It’s truly the only time any of the undecided Rs or wavering Trumpees will ever see Clinton directly, rather than a Breitbart- or Faux-driven caricature of her.

Her only demographic to make further gains with is those folks: undecided Rs or wavering Trumpees. So that’s where she has to go. To produce a truly epic defeat for Trump, rather than a mere loss, requires a lot of the sensible Rs to be willing to say “I now see she’s not a sulphur-spewing devil.”

Her ducking out on the debate won’t do that.

Besides, maybe just maybe he’ll truly wig out as several folks predicted about debate #2: e.g. try to assault Clinton, start shouting Heil Putin, insist that as President he’ll have the right to de-virginize all the brides in his realm, etc.

ETA: I especially like Czarcasm’s diabolical finesse.

I agree. “Anglos” in the US does not include English-speaking blacks or Asians.

Trump’s supposedly giving a speech/statement in five minutes. Clinton is terrible, everyone is lying, buy Trump steaks, etc.

The Onion, a fine news source, is withholding endorsement of a Presidential candidate because neither Trump nor Clinton have returned their 10 question questionnaire. See the document yourself here:

(Question 1: What do you consider to be the most important issue facing our nation?
1- Coal prices 2-Other.)

Not new to anyone here, but the Washington Post has an article rounding up some of the recent allegations and how the Trump campaign’s own statements are now working against them. For example. four days ago, Kellyanne Conway tweeted, “Every survivor of sexual assault deserves to be heard, believed, and supported,” an attack on Hillary Clinton for her response to Bill’s accusers. Now, she has to say she doesn’t believe Trump’s accusers. Whoops!

I didn’t see it mentioned here yet (but it probably was): Miss Utah 1997 reported being kissed by Trump at the pageant (via TPM). In an interview with the New York Times she said the publication of the 2005 tape gave her the freedom to come forward. “It was like, ‘Thank you.’ Now no one can say I made this up,” she told the Times.

To quote Ron White: “Once you’ve seen one woman naked, you want to see them all naked.”
Though I’m sure he would draw the line at underage kids.

Buzzfeed has been doing some of the best reporting on this election all year. In fact, their big political team just jumped ship to sign on with CNN.

Some Republicans are falling in line behind Trump again:

So, if you think an R has redeemed themselves somewhat by finally (finally) taking a stand against a known sexual assaulter and likely rapist, be sure to see what they’ve said lately. They might have re-discovered their conservative credentials.

Trump was supposed to appear on Hannity today, but he just backed out.

He must be feeling the heat. Hannity’s practically Trump’s biggest booster.

We should call Hannity to see what happened. I’m sure it’s what Trump would want.

Donald “Whaddaya mean, you don’t get to ‘Phone A Friend’ in a debate?” Trump

Welcome to airplane armrest truthers!

But, almost before you could say “Hillary inspected 9/11 wreckage with Rudy the very next day,” people found pix of movable armrests in first class seats in airplanes from that era, which are at the link.

Agreed. I see much greater risk in bowing out of the debate than showing up for it. Not that I think it would tank her chances for winning, but net-net she’s better off debating.

In the article they speculate whether or not Trump will show up for the third debate.
I’m thinking no way in hell Trump doesn’t show up for the third debate. If Trump is destined to win any of the debates, it would be this one. He’s got a handicap.
He’ll still lose of course.
