Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Exception. He did lose for governor of California 2 years later, and gave a famously whiny concession speech then. The fact that he was able to revive and more-or-less re-invent himself in 1967-68 is more a tribute to his own tenacity for power than anything.

Based upon polls released today, Real Clear Politics moved TX to a toss-up state in their electoral map.

His best line was when he called out his brother Stephen for supporting Trump:

Apparently Stephen really is a Trump supporter, and doesn’t think Alec’s Trump is very funny.

Trump just got his first newspaper endorsement: the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Which is owned by GOP Moneybags Sheldon Adelson, so not a huge surprise.

This could be just the break they need.

Meh. I guess +5 is their toss up edge as they still have it Trump +4.8

A visit to Trump Tower.
If this is any indication on how he plans to solve America’s problems…

I think this is his second. The first was the KKK.

I thought his first was from National Enquirer?

My favorite was the “stainless steel” contact paper over the white fridge. The other things were mere neglect and shoddy workmanship. But plastering fake metal over a cheaper item shows that they put some thought and effort into it. That’s attention to detail!

Crap. Ninjaed again. You have to move fast around here.

I know our infrastructure would be just great under Trump.

We dodged a bullet when he lost the “deal” to desecrate Jones Beach, an irreplaceable treasure. His absurd insistence on the basement

Pre-Convention Trump endorsements:
New York Post
New York Observer

post-Convention Trump endorsements:
National Enquirer
Santa Barbara News-Press
St. Joseph News-Press
Las Vegas Review-Journal

The news regarding the Review-Journal is that it is considered to be the first major paper endorsing Trump.
(I do not know what circulation gets one into the “major” category.)

Their circulation is about 120K (wiki thing says 172K, but I used to work for a paper: those numbers are always so grossly overstated, one can usually knock off a third), which in this era makes it a darn big publication. Dead-tree things are dying.

Hillary loves her Cubs.

It’s wonderful seeing her express real emotions and passions for something. She’s supported the Cubs since childhood.

I know, releasing the photo was a calculated move by her campaign. But it captured Hillary in a way that the public rarely sees.

Everything Hillary does is calculated.

And you know what?

I like that feature in the most powerful individual on the planet.

But Nixon came back from the political dead. Seriously, I did forget that but Nixon’s path kind of still illustrates the point: nowadays you’re really not likely to be viewed as contender next time, and two times later Trump would be 78 (the other big hole in the Palin analogy being that he’s old and she isn’t).

I mailed in my absentee ballot a few days ago, so I’ve done my part to help Hillary get elected. The down-ticket Republicans were out of luck too, as I voted a straight Democratic ticket, right down to and including mayor.

The Post has several times the circulation. A trashy paper perhaps, arguably only third in its market in circulation (slightly behind the Daily News if both’s numbers are equally accurate, Times more than both combined), but the market is the country’s biggest city. I guess maybe the technicality is to not count pre-nomination endorsements, as if the Post would ever have endorsed anyone else in the general.

It’s also worth noting that the New York Observer is owned by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

“Ol’ Enzyte John” they call him now around the has-been R’s retirement home.

Nice place: cozy fire, red cardigans for the men, Wilford Brimley telling stories from when the whole White Male American Generation was Great, etc. And there’s Enzyte John grinnin’ like a fool at all and sundry.
