Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Look, I get that you’re joking, but there are plenty of posts by Certain Conservatives (open a thread in the Pit, I’ll name names) that engage in stupid broad-brush characterizations of the left, right here in Elections and Great Debates.

It’s true that people who vote for Clinton are willing to put up with support for anti-democratic coups in Honduras in order to prevent Trump from getting into office. That’s not broad-brushing it. I’m willing to put up with that, for example.

It’s also true that people who vote for Trump are willing to put up with sexual assault and xenophobia and racial and religious bigotry in order to prevent Clinton from getting into office. That’s also not broad-brushing it.

Even principled conservatives who support Trump are saying that their issues of principle are more important than opposing things like xenophobia and racism. Yeah, that can be principled, but I’m inclined to think those principles suck :).

The punch-drunk boxer staggers into the ring, blood dripping from his sniffling nose, one eye swollen shut, and swings his gloves at the air somewhere in the general neighborhood of where the referee was standing moments ago.

(I want attention!)

It’s true. Mao wore pants, and so does Hillary. The implications could not be more ominous. When you look at that pantsuit what you should be seeing is the forthcoming confiscation of all private property and feudal landholdings, just the way Chairman Mao did it while (presumably) wearing pants the whole time.

Elections were a lot more fun when Bachmann and Palin were both running for prez!

Jacob Soboroff visited voters in rural Pennsylvania and asked them how they were going to vote. He came across a Trump supporter with Trump yard signs who is not going to bother to vote because the election is rigged.

Wouldn’t that be ironic, if the effect of Trump’s ranting about “rigged” elections just has the effect of suppressing his own voters?

Thing is, we’ll never know. How many votes did Trump not get because his people stayed home, because its rigged? Probably not many, I would guess. How many would go to vote for Trump, but ignore the downticket choices to protest “Republican elite” betrayal? Again, we’ll never know. Conversely, how many mostly sensible Republicans will vote downticket, but boycott Trump? Same thing.

And who, outside of my nitwit cousin, who hath not the good sense that God gave a goose…will not vote for Hillary because Bernie, even after Bernie damned near begs them to!

There will be opinions, but facts will be sparse.

They’re not going to vote because it’s pointless, but boy, they’re going to put up a lot of yard signs!

If you think about it, damn near every bit of serious evil in the last 1000+ years has been perpetrated while wearing pants. You need to get back to Roman times before serious evil wore a sorta-dress (toga).

Pants: Just don’t trust 'em.
Reminds me of one of my favorite sayings from the 1960s, though sadly I was too young to participate: “Up with miniskirts! Down with hotpants!”

Trump halts big-money fundraising, cutting off cash to the party. I guess GOTV for down ticket campaigns isn’t worth it.

Knock it off.

Wow! quimper scored a double!

That would be an interesting unintended consequence. And it would make the rigging claims more valid to those people. They already think Trump has more support than polls would indicate. If his final tally came up far less than what the polls are saying, it would be undeniable proof of massive rigging.

If he does better than that, all it will prove is that The People love him so much, they overwhelmed the “rigging”. The ugly irony there is a lot of brown Americans have to overcome voter suppression efforts, for reals.

Trump is doing the old lawyer trick called “mitigating his losses.” He wouldn’t be making these “rigged election” statements if he didn’t think he might lose. It’s not strategy to get people out to vote; it’s self-preservation. He knows full well he’s nowhere near qualified for the job, but he’s been bullshitting his was successfully so far. So to prevent becoming a big loser, he shouts himself in the foot and then blames the gun. One thing you will never hear Trump say is “I lost. I didn’t win.” Anything but that. Listen to him very closely when he makes his concession speech, if he even grows a pair to be able to do that.

What’s sad is that the pumpkin-Trump’s hair looks more natural.

This is a very interesting article on how Trump won over the White Nationalists

Is that supposed to be a shocker? He voted for Obama, against McCain and Romney.

You know who else wore pants?

Donald Duck?
