Well, riddle me this, Batman: How many times have you seen the FBI go out of their way to denigrate the target of an investigation after they conclude their was no basis for charges? Did Comey have to say he considered her behavior to be reckless? And let’s see- why after learning that there were three emails on a laptop that Weiner and his estranged wife share, not addressed to or sent by Clinton, does Comey inform Republican leaders that there he has more possibly relevant (though more likely not) evidence? On a Friday no less, in order to get the whole news cycle for the weekend? And contrary to the advice of the Justice Dept.? You could throw a rotted fish into a pile of pig manure and not have something smell as bad.
Well maybe he thought it was reckless. You don’t agree that the Secretary of State running her email through a personal poorly secured server is reckless? Seems obviously so to me.
Also, the rest of your post is riddled with misinformation. He informed senior Democrat members of the same committees as the Republican chairmen. We don’t know how many emails were just found. The idea that releasing stuff on Friday is the new best way for maximum effect is debatable at best. At this point, I’m unsure I should trust you that a rotten fish on pigshit smells bad.
Latest ABC/WaPo results show Hillary leading by just 2 points, within the margin of error, and here’s the thing: that was before Friday’s bombshell announcement.
In related news, a CNN opinion piece is calling for Comey’s resignation. I can see the point. Releasing factual information that undermines a candidate just before an election is one thing. Releasing vague non-information that lets Republican partisans spin it into mountains of innuendo is quite something else.
At the very least, he has to say something! Has he been falsely enlisted to the Trump cause, that they can say he has given them certain and solid proof of crime? How can a man with even a crumb of integrity let that stand, even for a minute? They are using his words to tell a lie, and he will stand there and let it happen?
It happened today, he should have answered it today.
The FBI Director serves at the pleasure of the President.
I wonder if this was actually an attempt by Comey to future-proof himself. IOW, he figured that creating a minor shit-storm now would mean the Ds couldn’t fire him after the election lest it look like such an obvious gross political hatchet job. So he’d be safe through the next administration. And he expected he’d get to look like a “fair cop” who places honesty and integrity above election-watching.
If my thought is correct, it appears he miscalculated the size of the shitstorm he launched.
