Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Find the person, charge them, and put me on the jury, and I’ll vote to convict. In the meantime, don’t expect me to ignore the information that’s now in the public domain.

AFAICT no one has “broken into a server”, at least not in the traditional sense that information technology folks understand the term. Several people seem to have duped some ignorant politicians with phishing attacks, something that’s many times easier than breaking into Google’s server farms, or even hacking into Clinton’s bathroom email server.

Is that really how the term is used by tech types? I would think that any unauthorized access consistutes “breaking in.” Certainly an unforced entry into my house (if someone found a key or had an extra copy of it – like a former owner) I’d call a “break in.” I mean, if you want to be technical, call it “an unauthorized user accessed the account,” but I don’t see how that makes any difference.

Still, “bathroom email server” is pretty darn cute. Who says these guys don’t have a sense of humor?

I’m starting to wonder if (and it’s a pretty big ‘IF’) the Clinton camp was behind the leak of the Access Hollywood tape, did they fire that salvo a few weeks too early?

More than just hacking out the contents of the server, I think what makes most complainers uneasy is that the material was obtained by the Russians. Trump’s Russian connections are more than a little troubling.

But Trump isn’t interested in advisers, who has all the answers.

The fact that Russia is a bit of a troubling issue for our foreign policy, and the fact they clearly prefer Trump to win, (*and *are willing to break the law to assist him) is probably the biggest reason to oppose his election I don’t mean to make light of his general incompetence and disgusting personality, but the Russia thing seems bigger.

It doesn’t make a big difference. It was more of a technical clarification. I’d explain it as the difference between someone reading the mail out of your mailbox vs smashing a window and climbing into your kitchen. If you told someone at my company that someone has “broken into a server”, they’re going to start looking for some sort of exploit used to achieve root-level access of the server, not a user that got phished.

Iran took hostages from Georgia?

I wonder if me being more worried by Clinton’s no-fly-zone plan for Syria than Trump’s alleged Russian connections makes me unusual just among Dopers or among the wider electorate. I see it as: one has a chance to lead to nuclear Armageddon and the other one has a chance to … I don’t know, lead to us being friendlier with Russia.

What’s the concern with Trump and the Russians, exactly? That he’s some sort of Manchurian candidate that would turn over all of our national security secrets to the Russians and leave us vulnerable to a first strike? I mean, for the guys that supported Obama & Clinton, and presumably her Russian “reset” gimmick, wouldn’t friendlier relations with Russia be a good thing?

The FBI continues its efforts to get Trump elected.

For personal profit, yes. He’d let Russia have its way in Europe and not do a damn thing. That’s worse than any plan Clinton has in the Middle East.

Jill Stein and her VP prefer Trump to Hillary because if Trump is elected, they think it will increase the Green Party’s numbers.

shrug I’ll add them to the list of federal agencies I consider compromised by politics.

If he’d stuck to just one wife, we wouldn’t have had to, would we?

Also, at least Nixon used RNC people as well as former Spooks.
There’s just something about openly calling upon a foreign power to commit criminal activities in a small-fisted attempt to unduly influence and possibly overthrow the government of the United States by hindering a free election… that bothers me.
What’s that word I’m thinking of…? No, its not ‘reason’… that’s never been Trump’s strong suit anyway.

PS- Also, this would be the SECOND clear violation of The Hatch Act by Comey and his team, right? Like he’s drawing a line in the sand and daring someone to arrest him…

Yes, I think Comey is now shooting at the dirt, but his foot keeps getting in the way.

Scott Walker just tweeted, “If you like the last eight years, vote for Hillary Clinton.” Democrats and the Clinton staff are jumping all over it and telling him, “Thank you.”

Well, Walker has spent the last 5 years fucking over his own state, so he is hoping dissatisfaction with his own performance will snatch Wisconsin away from her.

It’s their bubble. They honestly can’t imagine that a lot of people are quite happy with the President we’ve had for the last 8 years. Even some here on the SDMB thing it’s been a “disaster.”
