Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Yes, I do.

Just think of all the pussies Trump will be grabbing once he’s President. That’s MUCH bigger than being a plain old “star.”

Nate Silver’s very interesting article on the fall out of today:

He pretty much says it’s over, without actually saying that. But it is.

Well, sure, it’s the Dirty Dozen model of how the good people need to be protected by nasty badasses.

It would seem the members of the Religious Right have a problem in that they want to see restored their mythical way of life, to see visible evils undone, but they have lost faith in that, well, they’ve lost faith in faith, they have despaired that a deliverer will rise from *their *midst, and fall back on hoping for some gentile mercenary to do the earthly smiting they feel necessary.

They probably relate this hope to several old testament passages in which Israel or Judah is straying from the path and some foreign horde from Egypt or the Hittites or Assyria or Babylon shows up to administer punishment and overthrow the bad king, so the people then Turn to the Lord.

So the RR are obsessed with undoing “way of life” changes, matters of form, while at the same time espousing an “ends justify the means” mentality and so what if it took unclean heathens, the mercenary righted *earthly *wrongs while *they *who didn’t get *their *precious holiness soiled, will now be able to retake the spiritual work.

Mace’s continued defense of his position is bizarre given it essentially boils down to “What he did isn’t all that unusual” combined with “I trust Donald Trump’s ability to not go past *this *limit -because I trust they’re not going to find anything worse”.

I would not place money on that last, my friend.

This thread is moving so fast now it’s hard to say something relevant. Harking back a couple pages and a couple hours ago …
I share AK84’s disgust and concern that this latest groping stuff won’t change anything with many Trump supporters.

I equally share his disgust and concern that conversely, if this actually does become a watershed negative event for Trump, it will say something pretty ugly about the depth of American ignorance, stupidity, and misplaced priorities.

Yes, this is bad. But as **Bayard **said oh so long ago (noonish), this is about #218 on the rational list of reasons Trump’s obviously unfit. If this is what gets traction with the public, the public is demonstrating loud and proud just how dangerously clueless they are. If this is what gets traction with the R party leadership, that leadership is also demonstrating loud and proud just how dangerously clueless they are.

They did a special podcast this morning (or late last night) - about to play it now, but you may wish to listen.

You have a more uplifting view of your fellow man* than I do.

"And by “man”, I mean male. In this particular case, rich, powerful men who came of age in the 50s.

And Ivanka is tweeting about…pizza.

Donald Trump to Howard Stern: It’s okay to call my daughter a ‘piece of ass’

Rape and sexual assault are a lot worse than mere asshole behavior. I think that’s what’s driving the push back you’re getting.

Yes, I do. That was my original point.

He brought up an interesting metric for “taking the pulse”: the number of Google searches for Trump went up big time after Pussygaffe. Whereas, for previous instances of him stepping on his dick, not so much. Interesting.

CNN just replayed an interview with Ivanka where she said her father would do incredible things for women. That he’s amazing with women. How good a parent he was.
BARF

If you look at the probability graph, Trump has been on a steady decline since the first debate-- that is, for more the week. Interestingly (or not) this decline is slower than the decline he saw at the beginning of August-- that was a precipitous drop. And, he’s still almost 2x his lowest point during those dog days of August (he got near 10% vs his 18.6% now). Of course, one might easily argue that an 18% rating now is worse than a 10% rating in August, as the election is less than a month away…

You missed the point. They are great things from my position. The public positions of Hillary are terrible. I have favored a Clinton victory based on the hope that Clinton is a simple crony and is actually not as dumb as she pretends to be.

I am glad Trump won’t be president. I’m also glad I’ll be able to collect on my bet with my co-workers

I wonder why I find Melania’s response totally predictable, and…canned. She sounds like she wanted to do and say the thing that would be appropriate, and that made Donald happy, and not like she actually had any thoughts or feelings on the matter.

… and there goes John McCain…

Well, it was hard to come up with the right words because Michelle Obama has never had a similar situation to deal with.
