Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Glenn Beck has always hated Trump. He took a “Never Trump” position over a year ago. Beck has been calling out Trump as a racist, a liar and a scumbag from the get-go and when Trump was nominated, Beck declared Clinton was guaranteed to win and that Trump was the doom of the GOP and there’d never be a Republican President again.

So far his predictions look pretty spot-on.

True believer? She sounds like an evil Death Eater. I mean, this is the sort of tweet you’d expect from a stereotypical fictional villain.

I assumed she was auditioning for Wife #4.

I don’t know if this is the best place for it, but Trump’s rhetoric is starting to really frighten me. A friend of mine had a woman in her 70s rail at her for not supporting Trump, and predicted a revolution if Clinton wins. Then she threatened to kick my friend on the face if Trump isn’t elected, on the battleground of “her” ruined country.

It’s really making me hate my fellow Americans.

Gauleiter of Texas perhaps?

History is full of countries with large numbers of decent people who have been driven to acts of horror by sustained propaganda assaults on civil society and on the truth.

Americans are simply demonstrating that, contrary to their assumed exceptionalism, they’re as human as the rest.

I’m disappointed that those of us who know better couldn’t and didn’t take action earlier to drown out the propaganda with a better countervailing message.

Not blonde or white enough.

I swear, the hyperbole (if that is what it is) here is getting a bit much. Beck did not say he is supporting Hillary. He said he considered voting for her but can’t. He made it absolutely clear he is not voting for Trump nor Clinton.

Or young enough. She’s 40.

I think he has said he’s going to vote Constitution Party, but that at times he did get to the point he contemplated the possibility of having to vote Clinton.

Exactly this. Very well said, thank you.

As in other times in history, the conditions were exactly right for a particular type of demagogue to gain populist traction. It was almost like a perfect storm. It’s to America’s credit that the demagoguery is fading and not much more is going to happen than a very tumultuous election season and some nasty aftereffects that will, hopefully, be purely in the form of rhetoric. And a decent and in some ways even somewhat progressive democracy will soldier on.

Anyone with any insight on Alaska?
538 has it as a pretty light shade of Pink. Not as light as Arizona but lighter than Georgia.

Oh, the humanity!

Sorry, I didn’t read the article carefully enough. :o

Here is the actual Glenn Beck quote.

Yes, as I said, he considered it, and ultimately decided that he could not. That is a far, far cry from supporting Hillary.

Have no fear, in this analogy, Pence is Sheriff Brody. And Paul Ryan is the largely ineffectual Hooper. They’re both gonna swim to shore once the inevitable explosion happens. But then, Chelsea and her offspring will continue to haunt Pence in less entertaining further incidents.

No, Pence can’t be Brody. Brody is a noble character. Trump is the shark and Pence is the barrels they tag the shark with, trying in vain to keep him from going too low.

In other news, John Boehner hasn’t stopped smiling in weeks.

Holy fuck does he have any idea what some of those words mean? It’s a word salad of completely incompatible concepts. Reminds me of the Hi, I’m a Tea-Partier video.

ETA: That video is six years old… what’s changed since it was made?

No. Fucking. Joke.

I’m thinking of this hilarious filmwhere John Boehner gives Obama retirement advice. At about 3:12 he says to the President, “I had a beer at 11:30 in the morning. And McDonald’s now serves breakfast all day.”
