Liz Mair, communications person for various Republican figures over time, has been teasing knowledge about two major Trump pieces in the works. She tweeted tonight that tonight’s events are separate from them and they still have yet to drop.
It’s hard to believe they seriously think they can intimidate the NY Times into a retraction before the election. And of course that would do absolutely no good at this point. Are they going to sue every newspaper and TV station in the country?
:dubious: If I had to guess, I’d guess that they weren’t particularly enthusiastic about the prospect of being overwhelmed with hate mail and death threats from rabidly misogynistic Trump supporters when it didn’t seem that anybody was regarding Trump’s already well-established gropery as an issue worth any serious attention.
Recall that complaints about Trump committing sexual assault have been common knowledge in the race for a long time: e.g., his special counsel last year who deflected allusions to Ivana Trump’s account of his violent sexual assault during their marriage with the (untrue) assertion that “you can’t rape your spouse”. Remember that guy, the one who made such menacing threats back in July 2015 about the consequences of suggesting that Trump might be a rapist?
Yeah, can’t imagine why women who had been sexually assaulted by Trump weren’t speaking up before.
The Trumpublicans already knew long before this October that sexual aggression towards women was a potential vulnerability for their candidate, and they either blithely ignored it or tried to shut it down as viciously and dismissively as possible. I find it hard to blame Trump’s other victims for not publicizing their accusations in the face of that kind of indifference and hostility.
(Wonder if people like Cohen or Kurtz will retract or apologize for anything they said then, now that it’s abundantly clear—and more importantly, widely recognized—that their candidate is indeed a nasty coercive piece of rapey shit.)
The perfect reply to Trumps threats was made by Bill Maher:

"This is real, his lawyer sent me a letter that says, and I quote: attached here to is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump and not an orangutan…
Yeah…
Do these morons even know it’s impossible for people an apes to produce offspring? And look at the look at the lawyers signature: it just kind of trails off as if to say “I’m too embarrassed to even finish this… f**k I’m Trumps lawyer… :smack:”
So I ignored the letter like I ignore all letters I get from crazy people and I forgot about the whole thing until this week when Trump and his lawyer pictured here…
When they actually sued me for the five million, and don’t forget, this is not a libel case; no no they seem to be trying to set a bold new precedent that jokes on late-night talk shows are now legally binding agreements between the comedian and the person they’re making fun up.
Yes, I’m sure this will go all the way to the Supreme Court…
You know, I tell you something: the legal system in this country, is not a joke. It’s not a toy for rich idiots to play with. And frankly Mr. Baboon what you are releasing raises more questions than it answers. At least it does to a growing chorus of patriotic Americans who call ourselves apers and we’re just asking questions. Questions like well here’s what you put out its the short form certification of library is not a birth certificate. It was clearly made on a dot matrix computer printer and includes a scannable bar code, two technologies that were hardly around in 1946.
Where’s the original long-form certificate? Because a short form copy of his birth certificate unsigned by an attending physician isn’t proof of anything. You know who I learned that from? I learned that from Donald “but I’m white” Trump who would not accept the exact same document from the president. But remember who were dealing with here, a man who for a little extra publicity
will happily keep alive a debate over whether his family reunions are held at the zoo.

For some time Trump has been calling to mind the more unsavory characters of the Watergate era. The past week or so has done nothing whatsoever to dispel that impression.
Regardless, these women are helping to keep Trump on the defensive fighting Hillary, Bill, Ryan, McCain, the Republican party, the New York times, etc., and a really, really, rigged, crooked system. Hitler made the same mistake, opening too many fronts at the same time. Didn’t work then either.
The level of this campaign is unbelievably low. Rebels in Yemen fire missiles at a US destroyer. Another US destroyer launches cruise missiles in retaliation destroying several radar installations. The candidates are silent on this. National security is a non issue this cycle.
Agreed. I have to tune in to BBC America to find out what is going on elsewhere in the world and often in the U.S.A. . I even miss Ajazeera America TV. Can’t wait for Election Day plus 1.
IANAL, but I did watch a lawyer on CNN tonight, a former prosecutor, and he put Trump’s chances for a successful lawsuit at less than 1%. He said in cases like this, Trump would have to prove the newspaper acted with malice.
At least one said she was spurred to come forward when during the second debate Trump finally flat-out denied ever having preformed this sort of behavior.
An interesting juxtaposition of articles on my Google News “Top Stories” page right now.
