This is indeed a rare animal. Most Dominicans have never heard of it, and very few have seen one.
I hope it survives. I really want to see it featured as a main character in a children’s cartoon show someday!

I hope it survives because it’s the only mammal native to the island that is still alive. But mascot of the first Olympics hosted in the DR will be OK too.
