Hedra and I once discovered we worked for the same company, albeit different buildings, when we exchanged e-mails for some reason about something we were discussing on the Dope (UUism I think) and she noticed the domain was the same as hers. We had lunch a couple of weeks later, and she was the first Doper I ever met.

I was at our senoir management meeting in Atlanta last year, it was July or August.
I get up to give my presentation on the joys of accounting and auditing standards (yaaawn) and what is on the podium but a print out of a SDMB classics column by Cecil Adams. It was about what the words to American Pie were about.
I freaked out. Holy crap, someone at our corporate office was about three clicks away from discovering what they really pay me to do.
A couple of years ago, my mother was talking to me about some scam email that was forwarded to her from a well-meaning but none-too-swift friend. I was about to explain it all to her when she pulled out a folder and showed me the debunking she’d found on line - one of Unca Cecil’s columns!! I resisted the urge to tell her about these boards. She probably wouldn’t have bothered, but I don’t need to self-censor… like I indulge in TMI here…
