Club Soccer Fans: Would you rather...?

… prefer that your team win the top continental cup (Champions League, Copa Libertadores, Gold Cup, etc.) or the league?

Also, if you picked the top continental cup as the highest priority, would a combination of the league championship and top domestic cup (FA Cup, Copa del Rey, Copa do Brasil, etc.) be better than the top continental cup alone?

I support AC Milan and Leeds, so right now I can’t dream of either.

I always think that the Champions League is overrated Except for Barca and Byern, in the last few years (since Liverpool won in 2005 really) the winner has not IMO been the best team in Europe.

I think the lack of responses are due to 1) my unhelpful thread title and/or 2) people being offended with my use of the word ‘soccer’. Sorry, football! Bump

and 3) the board being down for 36 hours.

That may have had something to do with it, yeah.

Barça fan here. Not bothered by the use of the word “soccer” at all. CL is great and all, but the true measure of consistency is the regular round robin league- tournaments can be won by sheer luck, after all.

I think it is a badly thought out question as for many people, due to the way things are set up, both the top division and the continental cup are way out of reach.

Take me, for example. I support Coventry City that are now in the third division down in England. In their 133 year history they have played in Europe once and that was before I was born (they also qualified in 1987 but could not play as English teams were banned from European competition). The idea that Coventry could even be in the Champions League is so distant it is comical.

So I’m a realist. I’d like them back in the Premier League and we’ll take it from there.

ETA:
It is 46 years since Coventry finished in the top six in any division, the worst record in English professional football. We seem to adapt to being as crap as possible wherever we are.

And yet, in that time, only been relegated twice? I don’t think that’s being ‘as crap as possible’. ‘Unrivaled mediocrity’ perhaps, but not all crap, right?

Tottenham fan here. I think winning the Champions League would be the ultimate, though winning the domestic double would come close.

Also a fan of the Chicago Fire. Nobody cares about the CONCACAF Champions League*, so there I’d rather win either the league (regular season or playoff) championship or the US Open Cup.

*Which, to the OP, is the North American international club cup. The Gold Cup is for national teams.

True - like that other lot down the road from you in Leicester.
