Clueless Idiots: The Nobel Committee

Before this, ivylass had lots of respect for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Damn you bup, for ripping off the same joke before I came here to rip off.

Hell, this is how he won the presidency to begin with. You are now reaping what you have sown, people.

Are you kidding? Glenn’s going to be giggling like a schoolgirl for the next umpteen hours.

Waahh waahhhh a black man is superior to me. Wahhh wahhh.

(No cite, it was just a comment on a few blogs)

He won the presidency by not being George, John, Hillary, Mitt, Rudy, Mike, John again, Dennis, Joe, Evan, Mike again, Bill, Chris, Tom, Ron, Alan, Sam, Duncan, Tom again or Tommy.

Just in the interest of fighting ignorance and all:

from here

I suspect this is the rationale for the prize.

Feel free to ignore.

Well he did get that cop and that professor dude to have a beer and make up.

Well maybe, but apart from *that * . . .

He won the Presidency because he beat his opponents on substance, character, temperment, intelligence and judgement.

For all those whining about this perfectly meritorious and appropriate decision by the Nobel Committee, who do you think SHOULD have won?

By the way, giving Obama the award just to spite GWB is an absolutely valid and commendable all by itself.

Any one of a thousand deserving humanitarian workers, charity directors, disarmament campaigners, dissidents, etc. Hell, give it to Sarkozy- he actually accomplished something peace-related this year.

Rubbish. One, Bush isn’t going to care, and two, it cheapens the prize.

Like giving it to Kissinger in 1973 wasn’t the biggest fall-over-laughing moment imaginable.

It’s like the Oscars folks, overrated, pompous and self-aggrandizing.

Fucking up once does not mean you should continue to fuck up. Anyway, the Nobel prizes are nothing like the Oscars; winners end up in history books, not as footnotes on IMDB.

Not that there haven’t been some blunders, but that doesn’t mean they should just pack it in and give the award to Carrot Top.

Obama is all those things.

It’s not about Bush caring, it’s about rewarding the US for the reversal of his policies, and encouraging the US – as a country – to continue in its new direction. The purpose of the award is to try to influence future events as much or more than to reward past accomplishments. That doesn’t cheapen the prize, it enriches it.

Are you kidding? There’s nothing more peaceful than death.

Then give it to the American people or something. I could sure use the money.

In case anyone is interested, here are the other nominees.

And no, I haven’t had much respect for the Peace Prize for some time now, but this is just over the top stupid.

Agreed. I like Obama, I voted for him, but this is silly.

The truth is that conservatives just don’t have any respect for the ideal of peace in itself.
