C'mon America. Go to factcheck.com like Dick said

I’d personally like to thank Cheney for directing America to “factcheck.com” to find out the truth.

Of course, I think Cheney meant “factcheck.org” but what’s the difference? Well, I looked it up just out of curiousity.

Turns out that the difference is that http://www.factcheck.org is a bipartisan fact-checker who has covered Halliburton’s indiscretions at: http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=261
And none too flattering coverage at that.

On the other hand, http://www.factcheck.com - the site Cheney told America to go to, bounces visitors over to georgesoros.com.
George Soros is, of course, the billionaire philanthropist demonized by the republicans for the money he’s contributed to try and keep Bush from geting re-elected.

The top of his web page reads: WHY WE MUST NOT RE-ELECT PRESIDENT BUSH.

So come on America, follow Dick’s advice and look up that factcheck.com and find out all you need to know about Cheney…

[Nelson Muntz] Ha- HA! [/Nelson Muntz]

I’m guessing some genius put that up overnight.

In fairness, it’s not a huge deal that Cheney got it wrong. People screw stuff like that up all the time.

Was anyone else hoping that the domain would be a porn site? That’d be funnier than the bouncing over to Soros’ website.

Of course not. It’s just kinda funny (to my Cheney disliking self) that the Soros camp would jump on his slip and exploit it as such. Why, it’s almost… republican in it’s craftiness.

Now, if Cheney had told America to go to whitehouse.com than that would have been REALLY funny.

Of course, the real factcheck.org tears Cheney a new one over his cite.

Daniel

Damn, I thought he said “fatchick.com.” Boy, was I surprised!

Another Halliburton subsidiary?!

Daniel

[forgive me for crossposting this from another thread; it’s relevant here, too]

The plot sickens

So apparently this is just a prank by the cybersquatter who owns factcheck.com. That’s good: as I said, this was dirty politics and kind of disgusting (albeit funny), and I’m glad to see it’s not Soros who’s doing it.

Daniel

Okay, Looks like here’s the lowdown:

Daniel

I’m surprised it took the american public to take 100 seconds to type in a web address.

WHy is this dirty politics or disgusting? I simply don’t get that at all.

If George Soros had done it, he’d be weaselifically cashing in on factcheck.org’s sterling reputation of nonpartisan information in order to get out his extremely partisan message.

I got no problem with partisan messages: I just want them to be honest about it.

Since Soros wasn’t responsible for this, since it was something done by a sleazebag website owner who’s been cashing in on factcheck’s reputation all along, I’m not too worried about it.

Daniel

Oh sure, the one freaking time Dick actually responds to the chorus of debate-watching Dopers yelling “Cite?”, and all you can do is nitpick his coding.

Well, since it mirrors the administration’s level of competence in finding WMD and running the war in Iraq… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll  to that.
Daniel

[Fritz the Cat] What a wonderful, wiggly world! [/Fritz the Cat]

Gotta give you that one, friend!

Of course, if for his third point he’d mentioned Opal:wink:

It’s Al Gore’s bitter revenge.

Shodan

Dick (disdainfully): “Today was the first time I ever visited factcheck.com.”
