CN Tower to offer walk on the outside – 1,168 feet above the city

Toronto’s CN tower, still one of the tallest free standing structures in the world, is about to offer the opportunity to walk outside the structure with a safety harness. Globe and Mail article here.

Wow. Remember that antenna video that was going the rounds a few months ago? This would be so cool, but absolutely not for those with a fear of heights.

Not a chance in hell I could do it but I wish I could. I’ve taken pictures from the observation deck but the safety fence is pretty obtrusive and it’s hard to get a good angle. I wonder if they would let you strap a camera to the outside of that safety harness?

Wow. I don’t have a fear of heights; I have a respect of heights.

I’d probably do it though, just because.

My stomach just dropped reading the OP. I did training in Toronto for a few weeks several years ago. Stayed at the Renaissance Hotel at the Skydome. Walked right by that Tower twice a day. I had no desire to go up there. Definitely have no desire to do a “sky-walk”. shudder

A respect for heights means you’re hard-wired correctly. A fear of heights means you’re aware of the consequences and they out-weigh the thrill.

It’s the people who have no fear nor respect for heights who scare the crap out of me.
It’s a bit beyond my price range, but yeah, I think that’d be incredible. Cheaper’n a pair of Leafs’ tickets in the golds, too.

I would do it, and make sure that the safety harness was not worn in vain while I was at it.

Mine too. I’m not even going to open the link tho read the text about this.

I went up the tower about 12 years ago. I wouldn’t even step on the glass viewing floor, even though little kids were taking turns jumping up and down on it. Stupid brain…

I’ve certainly been on the outdoor observation deck of the CN Tower, and walked across the glass floor, but I’d be torn about this. On the one hand, it would be a thrill to be able to do it; but on the other, I (like others upthread) have a healthy respect for heights. In the end, it would probably come down to price for me, and I think I could find something better to do with that amount.

Puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke.

(Danged acrophobia…)

If I’m ever in Toronto I’m going.

Wow…no thanks. I would be petrified. I’m not scared of too many things, but extreme heights is one of them, probably because I have nightmares about plunging off of them so often.

Talk about a real “Where’s my Mommy” moment for me out on that thing, all weak-kneed…

I would do it, but not for $175. That’s a little pricey for an elevator ride and a walk around a fifty foot circle.

Bingo.

I’d do it.

(Just gotta find the $175 + 13% value-added tax…you know they’re going to stick HST on that, don’t you?)

:: mental note: make safety harness for camera ::

I am petrified of heights, the OP made my throat tighten a little bit, but I would probably do it if I had the time money and someone urging me along. I tend to push the envelope a bit once in a while, like diving (jumping) off the high tower at the swimming pool, or going a slightly more advanced ski hill than usual.

Then to the bar for some strong drink.

I’ve visited the top of the CN tower and walked on the indoor glass floor. That was sufficient, I think.

A similar type of walk has been available for a while on top of Sydney’s tallest building: Skywalk

I like to do it. Without a harness I will not go near a drop, but in a harness, I’m happy as a clam.

The Skywalk price is $65, which seems far more reasonable.

It also made me realize I was thinking about these prices as US dollars, rather than Canadian or Australian dollars. For all I know, I could be passing up a bargain!

Both the Canadian dollar and the Australian dollar have been above the US dollar for some time now. 1 USD = 0.96 CAD and 0.93 AUD.
