CNN is getting on LA Gov.'s case - Why?

I was on the road last night and missed Obama’s speech and more to the point Bobby Jendal’s (sp) response. I was listening to a couple of the talking heads on CNN today and they were making fun of him.

What did he say that was so funny? Did it deserve it?

Pit has good thread on this.

Mods feel free to close this down. The discussion in the pit is excellent. BEfore starting this, I looked in GD, and General Qs. I even went to Cafe Society, but never thought to go to the Pit. Foolish me.

Best to enjoy it while you can.

His name has been bandied about as a Republican nominee in 2012, to run against Obama the Great and Powerful. CNN is being proactive.

Shodan

So in the interests of a rebuttal to that biased network CNN, perhaps you can expound upon how Mr. Jindal’s speech last night was an excellent one, marked by it’s sagacity and profundity. Here’s a link to start you off from that noted lefty blog, Associated Press:

Republicans, Democrats criticize Jindal’s speech

I mean, you must have some evidence that CNN is just biased against Jindal, right? You’re not just making a joke?

I believe the real answer – for which there is overwhelming evidentiary support – is that Jindal is a foob.

Please friend Shodan.

I’m sure you did not mean to simply drop a … Nugget of wisdom such as this and not return to debate it!

You may feel better to know that the disapproval of Mr. Jindal was not unanimous. Others of like mind to yourselfhave defended Mr. Jindal

Please! Tell us how Mr. Jindal’s words of wisdom are like unto Solomon himself! We need to know how the vituperative media are twisting the kind motivations of those such as yourself!

Limbaugh’s lips are currently pressed soundly around Bobby’s knob, therefore Shodan has already been told exactly what to think. Reasoning is unnecessary.

-Joe

Even Limbaugh doesn’t seem to have been that impressed with Jindal’s delivery, though. From EP’s link:

Not at all. They were mocking him because he was so awesomely and atypically stupid. It was low-hanging fruit.

I mean, ye gods. I SUPPORT the president in general, but I could have offered half a dozen more cogent criticisms of this stimulus plan merely as an intellectual exercise.

Jindal is being mocked because he did such a sucky job.

I haven’t seen the CNN clips in question, but my guess would be that the consensus here is correct: Jindal is being criticized because he did an awful job. 30 seconds in I turned to my roommate and said, “This guy is never going to be President.”

That is *exactly *the comparison I was looking for. Example.

Yes, but will he ever become Pres’e’t?

Jindal is a very smart guy. Rhodes Scholar, masters in poly sci from Oxford, accepted to Harvard Medical, youngest governor in the nation, yada yada.

That said, the speech was terrible. He came across as a real lightweight.

In other words, a member of the “intellectual elite”?

Be that as it may, although I didn’t hear Jindal’s speech, I’m perfectly willing to believe that (a) it sucked, and (b) it didn’t accurately reflect his real level of intelligence or ability.

No! Friend Shodan has assured us that CNN is only impugning his speech for purely partisan reasons, in order to pro-actively ruin Jindal’s run for the presidency!

MY GOD! They’ve gotten to Sam Stone now! How low will the liberal media stoop?

The thing is, it ain’t CNN’s place to mock him.

But then more and more news sites are dropping the sham of objectivity and openly showing their bias, so maybe it is.

You watch CNN for the news? Who does that?

Not in straight news reportage. But how is it inappropriate in, say, an opinion and analysis segment? It’s not as though it’s a partisan minority viewpoint, after all: pretty much everyone seems to concur that Jindal’s speech sucked.

And by the way, I don’t recall you ever tsk-tsking about, say, CNN talking heads making fun of the famous “Howard Dean scream” back in 2000. Was that “openly showing their bias” too?

Giving the rebuttal speech after a Presidential address is always a thankless task, especially when you’re following an electrifying speaker like Obama.

So, Bobby Jindal was in a tough spot. Even if he gave a great speech, it was bound to be inadequate.

And he didn’t give a great speech. Not even close. He seemed like a high school freshman trying out for the debate team.

For those of us conservatives who had high hopes for Jindal, this was a HUGE disappointment. NOT one that can’t be overcome (It wasn’t MUCH worse than Bill Clinton’s godawful speech at the 1988 Democratic Convention), but he’s got to do MUCH better than that if he has any ambitions 0of running for President one day.
