"Co-Star: The Record Acting Game!"

Anyone else remember these? In the late '50s, a number of down-at-heel celebs were convinced to make these LPs, featuring them reading one half of a script in various scenes. You—the listener!—were invited to Co-Star! with your favorite washed-up celeb by reading along with them. Bliss!

Googling this, I see that George Raft, Cesar Romero, Arlene Dahl, June Havoc and Basil Rathbone were among those featured. But the one I remember so fondly was Tallulah Bankhead—a friend loaned me his Co-Star! with Tallulah Bankhead album, once, and I am still kicking myself for not taping it. I particularly recall Tallu giving acting lessons, on the emphasis of words within a sentence, all in her raspy whiskey baritone:

What have you been doing?”

“What have you been doing?”

“What have you been doing?”

“What have you been doing?”

“What have you been doing?

I wish they would start making these again—surely there are enough down-at-heel celebs nowadays to do a few tapes!
