I agree. At worst, the coach should have taken the kid off the team completely if he couldn’t perform as required.
This is way out of line. Hopefully, this dickhead will be on the unemployment line soon.

I’m guessing that the person he bought it from may not have known that it was for a 13 year old kid. It may even be possible to buy something like that over the internet.
Not sure it would have occurred to me to ASK who the trophy was for if I was the guy who made the thing.
And I had a great many coaches and phys ed teachers over the years. The only ones I remember were the one who liked to tell stories about “wasting gooks in Viet Nam” and the one who enjoyed forcing the fat kid to run up and down the bleachers until he vomited, and then laughed himself silly, every time.
I’m sure I had any number of kind, warmhearted, professional coaches. As a teacher, I can name several I’ve worked with. But as far as my childhood goes, the bastards are the ones who stick in my memory.
If it was my kid, I would have physically attacked the SOB right there and then. I hope the bastard gets fired.
SOBs. If all the family was there, I’m sure the two miserable fucks would when the “pissing in their pants” trophy.
Makes you wonder what his acceptance speech was like, hm?
Anyone else notice where this all took place?
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J.
heh.
I wish they’d report the names of the coaches.
I had a gym teacher in middle school who was into the whole humiliation thing. Wouldn’t surprise me if he turned out to be one of 'em.
Well, for one thing, the first quote is a statement of personal experience. “I’ve never known a man who didn’t drive a pickup truck” doesn’t mean the speaker thinks all men drive pickups, you know? It’s just stating someone’s experience. I personally never knew a coach who wasn’t a jerk, and miserably incompetent at teaching to boot. That doesn’t mean that I believe all coaches are jerks, or that none of them are decent teachers. It just means that I haven’t come across them in my personal experience.
That very well may be why he got the award. It hasn’t been that long ago that the Pit was wailing about a spoiled brat kid whose father sued the school system because his kid didn’t get an MVP award when the kid was not the MVP in the eyes of his teammates. The story linked in the OP says almost nothing about the circumstances. Maybe the kid was indeed a crybaby who constantly whined about everything and was encouraged on by his dad.
Oh, well then that changes everything.
Then your experience has fuck-all to do with the OP.
Wang-Ka is a jerk because he shows compassion and sympathy?
Well, probably more to ascertain whether the kid was actually entitiled to the award.
Even if he was a poor sport, you don’t publicly mock someone for being a poor sport. You tell them, during the season, that they need to change, and guide them in the right direction.
Well, maybe the coach did that, and the kid kept whining.
So what if he did? Does that make it any better for the coach to publicly humiliate the boy?
The Domestic Goddess and I discussed this at some length before falling asleep last night.
We’re both teachers, and we understand how incredibly annoying some kids can be. Some kids even work at it.
But we both agreed that publicly humiliating the kid is no solution. Furthermore, it opens the school up to lawsuits and ghod knows what else.
Anybody see the followup to this story? Click Here for the latest news on it…
Probably not, but I bet the whiny little prick shuts up now. Of course now the parent(s) and lawyers will do the whining.
(It sounds like the coach was probably on the same level of maturity as the whiny little prick)
Oh, God! The trophy had a baby figurine on it! ::cries::
I’d love to see a picture of it.
I know, I’m laughing in the midst of this crappy scenario. I’m so so sorry.
county, I’m not the first nor the last to say this, but you are an irredeemable asshole.
Whiny little prick in question (which we don’t know if he WAS whiny) IS. A. CHILD.
The coach…WAS AN ADULT.
They are not on the same level. One is an innocent, one is a dick.
