Yeah right. The union is doing it’s job. If they said hey, fire the guy, well they would be management or perhaps be you. But they are not, they are the union with a responsibility to the guy they represent. You are on a fucking internet board and you don’t have all the information. Perhaps the guy deserves firing, perhaps not but you don’t know enough about the situation to judge. (although that is certainly not slowing your ignorant ass down)
Hey smegmabreath…It turns out my statement that bunched your panties (fuck the teachers’ union) is my general consensus on unions. The admitedly very little info that I have about this particular case hase no bearing on my feelings toward unions in general.
Perhaps my view of unions is defensible, perhaps not but you don’t know enough about the situation to judge. (although that is certainly not slowing your ignorant ass down).
Oh, and BTW, thanks for pointing out the SNL skit. I musta seen it long ago and memories were triggered.

As for the OP. I’m a peaceful man, but if a coach did that to one of my kids you’d have to drag me off of him.
Kids whine. It’s annoying as hell. But if you’re serious about discipline and character building you can shut them down. In the Pochacco household all requests that are not delivered in polite and pleasing tones are automatically ignored. Repeated whining gets you a reprimand or a punishment.
It sounds to me like the coach was too much of a chickenshit to exert proper authority over his team. So he tries to get the mob to do his disciplining for him. What a passive-aggressive little wuss.
I reject your idea. That’s the easy way out - never question what we do as a society - just blame the “evil” criminals. Murder, theft, and domestic violence rates are higher in the inner cities? That’s just 'cause they’re all “evil”, right? No need for social equality or sensitivity to minority issues - if they do something bad, it’s just 'cause they’re “evil”. Just throw 'em in jail - that’ll fix it.
Let’s have accountability, by all means. But please don’t ignore the factors that influence people’s behavior.
I disagree with the opinion of the union in this case as well. But how you get from one statement by one local of the teacher’s union, to “Fuck the teacher’s union” is beyond me. You’re just ignorant. You union-bashers make me sick. Open your eyes and see what’s going on in corporations like WalMart where there’s no union protection. I’d love to see one of you smartass “down with unions” jerks work a whole day for minimum wage, then be forced to stay overtime for no extra pay, and THEN say “fuck the unions.”
I read the article World Eater linked to, and it appears that the coach is 24. Ok, most of the people around my age are mature enough to be a coach, but the age difference between the coach and the kids wasn’t huge. Perhaps, he had difficulty being an authority figure and his own immaturity clouded his judgment.
I get from one statement by one local of the teacher’s union, to “Fuck the teacher’s union” because I have contemplated the topic all of my adult life.
I worked 2 years doing plumbing in new homes for minimum wage. Many weeks I worked 50 or more hours and got paid for 40. At the time I was happy to have a job. I could have left that job and sought other employment if I wanted.
I have turned down employment rather than join a union. I have made that choice due to a lifetime of observations that have led me to decide that I would rather refine my abilities such that I could demand a salary that I feel is appropriate.
So fuck off blowero. You union supporters make me sick.
I’ve never been a plumber, so I cannot speak for plumbers.
I have been a teacher, and I will tell you that teachers’ unions and advocacy groups come in damn handy when some asshead of an administrator decides to screw you sideways for his own convenience, and you can’t just quit because you’re obligated to a year-long contract… and he offers to violently fuck up your reputation in the field, make it harder for you to find another job, if you don’t knuckle under to his demands.
Admittedly, it can work the other way, too – a guy who deserves to get fired may well not be if the union can put sufficient pressure on the district.
To say that unions are always good OR bad falls into the same category with the statement “All dark-skinned persons are drug abusers,” i.e., a buncha crap.
