Coal Candy - Spain

I’ve seen candy in the US that looks like lumps of coal (it’s a licorice-flavored hard candy, fairly shiny). A friend of mine mentioned this sort of thing being a traditional treat in Spain at Christmastime, but she couldn’t find the official Spanish name for the stuff. Some googling suggests it’s either “carbón de azúcar” or “Carbon de Reyes”, but each term only showed up once or twice.

Can anyone tell me the correct term? Nava, are you out there?

(using my one bump)

Sorry, no info on a Spanish version. There’s a company in Seattle that makes a cinnamon flavored coal candy for Christmas.

Anise or Cherry seems to be the traditional flavor though I’ve seen the cinnamon stuff. I found lots of links for the stuff, but I believe Mama Zappa only wants the Italian name not to order it.

carbón dulce.
