Coast of Italy/France between Nice and Genova

I was going to drive from Frankfurt this weekend with some friends to the sea, and I’m looking for good locations. I’ve been to Genova, and it’s too crowded and industrial. Never been to Nice but I suspect it might a little too touristy. We’re looking for someplace kind of mellow to hang out in cafes and swim and maybe have a few drinks in the evenings.

We only have three days so we don’t want to drive too far. Genova is about the closest point you can get to the Mediterranean from Frankfurt, and we went to Arenzano/La Spezia /Deiva Marina few weeks ago, so we thought we’d go west this time.

We spent a few nights in San Remo(although it was in May so quiet season) - it’s a slighty faded casino town, but nice atmosphere and cute to walk around. About an hour north of Genoa - might want to consider taking a look? Like most beaches in Italy it’s a PAYG, but nice beach. Lovely Art Nouveau architechture as well.

Ventimiglia. Small town right on the border. It’s mellow but there are cafes, bars and beaches. You can drive to Menton for the food market.
