I rather enjoy The Ladykillers as well. Little touches like when they are dumping Garth Pancake and Mountain Girl over the railing - they both have hiking boots and hairy legs, so you don’t know which is which, make it fun.
Most of their work I consider very good. I have not seen all of them, but I think Intolerable Cruelty was a miss. Wont be watching that one again anytime soon. Llewelyn Davis was an interesting one - a strong performance by Oscar Isaac, but the movie leaves me feeling grey.
I was underwhelmed by both Hudsucker and Intolerable Cruelty, although they have their moments. I liked Ladykillers better, but Lebowski remains far and away my favorite Coen Bros. movie.
So much more so because starting with the premise that a Hollywood studio threw them together as a cynical PR stunt, few other filmmakers would have written a sweet date where they’re both so complicit. This kind of neuron-satisfying writing choices are what make actors flock to the Coens and the characters so re-watchable.
